Technical Communications Lead About this role:

The Engineering Operations is a team that works on global, cross-functional projects that lie at the heart of building Slack. We are seeking a dynamic program manager and writer to lead our technical communications. In this role, you will build and implement technical communication processes that foster predictable excellence across all of engineering.

As Slack grows, it is critical that we develop repeatable, scalable methods to communicate clearly about our technical processes and methodologies. You'll help define what this means across all of engineering and then build those solutions. You have heaps of broad, technical knowledge as well as experience crafting technical documentation that can be understood by broad audiences. You thrive when running multiple, highly-detailed projects in a dynamic environment, and know how to make in-flight corrections when things don't go according to plan.

You understand the value of explaining complex concepts briefly and succinctly. You are familiar with metrics used to track content performance and you are able to think strategically about how to improve content impact. You will work directly with Engineering Operations and Engineering Leadership to drive projects from planning through to delivery and will ensure the work is well understood, is tracked appropriately, and is executed successfully across multiple departments.

In short, there is someone at Slack who cares deeply about our technical internal communication and documentation. That person is you!

You will:

  • Create high quality artifacts and documentation about technical processes and workstreams.

  • Identify and drive technical communication improvements across multiple teams and functions, leading the execution of programs and projects.

  • Provide hands-on project management during analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, launch, and post-launch phases.

  • Plan and execute high-value cross-team and group-wide meetings.

  • Identify, monitor and lead organizational and project changes via communication standard methodologies.

About you:

  • You have experience in communicating with a broad technical audience across a variety of mediums.

  • You have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and experience managing activities across multiple teams.

  • You possess a demonstrated track record of delivering complex projects and programs with multi-functional teams.

  • You are able to work independently and communicate across multiple time zones.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience working on a globally distributed team.

  • Image editing skills.

  • HTML and CSS skills.

  • Organizational development experience.
