Responsible technical work planning and coordinating an engineering program. Assists a professional engineer by overseeing a signalization and lighting plans production program.

Designs and reviews signal and lighting plans. Responsible for independently administering a program such as traffic signal and lighting modifications, intersection improvements, road signing and striping, permitting or roadway design. Coordinates projects with utility representatives and resolves overhead and underground utility conflicts for signal device locations, and determines power source locations.

Performs field checks and assists contractors at various intersections. Interacts with consultants and developers regarding signal and lighting projects in traffic design. Prepares payment forms for work performed by consultants and contractors.

Creates and maintains all necessary libraries in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) system. Designs and maintains databases or spreadsheets for signal section. Work involves independent plan review, specialized technical guidance, and reporting for an assigned program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification supplemented by a certificate of completion for a vocational training program or two (2) years of college-level coursework (must specify 60-semester/90-quarter hours) in Drafting, Data Processing, Computer Science, Civil/Environmental/ Planning or Transportation/Highway Engineering or related field; minimum of three (3) years of experience in traffic systems. Equivalencies: Graduation from high school/equivalent and five (5) years of related experience; unrelated Associate's/Bachelor's Degree AND two (2) years of related experience; Associate's/Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Environmental/Planning or Transportation/Highway/Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or closely related field AND six (6) months of related experience.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN/WITH: Traffic systems; signal and lighting design; pavement marking.

Also desirable: One (1) year of experience using MicroStation/AutoCAD/Geographic Information System (GIS) software/Access Database.

Must be able to lift 40 pounds. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.
