POSITION TITLE: Technical Assistant I - (Part-Time)

DEPARTMENT: Administration and Finance

PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River

REPORTS TO: Theatre Director, Set Design and Production

POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, classified (AFSCME), non-benefitted, up to 15 hours per week position, some nights and weekends required.

SALARY: $20.28 per hour.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Technical Assistant works closely with the Theatre Director in developing, constructing, and maintaining the lighting, sound, A/V and rigging equipment for events in the Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center. The Technical Assistant provides production assistance to the Performing Arts department as well as community theatres, dance and a variety of external organizations. The Technical Assistant supervises production and technical crews composed of student and local theatre stagehands and acts as the Theatre Director's representative when the Theatre Director is unavailable for events and shows. Design opportunities available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the day to day operations of a vibrant college theatre. Including maintaining lighting, rigging, audio, and A/V gear

  • Assist in training and supervising students on proper equipment protocols, communicating and enforcing safety procedures in scenery/electrics/rigging.

  • Support the technical needs of the performing arts program, rental clients and college events. Duties often include evening/weekend work calls, technical rehearsals, concerts, and performance support on mainstage and studio productions.

  • Monitor the daily activities of computer labs.

  • Assist students, faculty and the community with computer questions and requests.

  • Assist with the installation of software and hardware in College computer labs.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of computer-related work or educational experience.

  • Good knowledge of Windows-based and Macintosh operating systems.

  • Experience working with educational software.

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Excellent customer-service attitude.

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • The ability to design and construct production equipment from sketches, diagrams or plans.

  • The ability to read and understand floor plans, color schemes, stage lighting, and basic construction plans or blueprints.

  • Mechanical skills in the construction, operation, and minor repair of sound and lighting equipment and the use of hand and power tools.

  • Knowledge of ETC EOS software a plus.

  • Familiarity with live audio mixing.

  • Familiarity with A/V equipment and best practices
