  • CLASSIFIEDPOSITION:TECHNICAL ASSISTANT

  • COMPUTERSRANGE:16A.PRIMARY FUNCTIONUnder general supervision, to perform a variety of instructional, planning, or coordinating activities, to provide intensified learning experiences for students in assigned areas; and to do related work as assigned.Positions assigned to this class are distinguished from an Instructional Aide primarily by the relative independence of action to perform assigned duties. Incumbents typically work independently according to a developed plan or outline.

    Incumbents are expected to have background and knowledge of the areas assigned. Assignments typically are in computer lab and/or technical support environments.B.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIESDuties may include, but are not limited to the following:1.In a technical support environment::a.Troubleshoot and correct basic hardware, software, and networking problems.b.Maintain computers, printers and other equipment in good working order. Delete unnecessary files; insure that only properly licensed software is installed on the computers.c.Respond to help computer support calls; keep track of status of help calls and communicate with staff about the status of their help.d.Install and configure new computers.e.Monitor use of school computers and network resources for evidence of tampering, intrusion, tracking, virus infestation, or other threats to the district's system.f.Maintain backup files.g.Develop training materials to assist staff in utilizing standard district hardware and software.h.Insure adherence to District's Acceptable Use Policy, copyright laws, and software licensing requirements.i.Install software, upgrades and patches.j.Maintain a neat, orderly, and attractive work environment.k.Attend workshops to update skills.2.In a computer lab environment:a.Coordinating with teachers to plan lab activities that support the teachers' objectives and integrate the use of technology in their curriculum.b.Maintain and publish a lab schedule with a clear procedure for teachers and students to schedule.c.Maintain computers, printers and other equipment in good working order. Delete unnecessary files; insure that only properly licensed software is installed on the computers.d.Maintain records of students who have permission to use the Internet as well as those who are excluded from computer use due to disciplinary action...e.Visit sites regularly to monitor needs.f.Develop and present learning materials and instructional exercises under the general supervision of the Director of Technology Network Administrator or the teachers at the school; tutor individuals and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities.g.Develop a variety of instructional materials.h.Monitor and assist students in activities such as drill, practice, and repetition.i.Follow District Technology Plan and Curriculum.j.Maintain student records and files...k.Attend workshops to update skills.l.Maintain student discipline and monitor students to insure they follow the Acceptable us Policy.m.Maintain a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment.C.QUALIFICATIONS1.Knowledge of:a.Student behavior and characteristics.b.Techniques used in controlling and motivating students.c.General purposes and goals of public education.d.Basic first aid procedures.e.Specific subject area content as required in job assignment.2.Ability to:a.Utilize standard teaching aids and office machines.b.Utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional setting.c.Follow oral and written directions.d.Establish and maintain friendly, cooperative and effective working relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work.e.Pass District administered English, math, word processing, database, and spreadsheet competency tests.f.Establish and maintain friendly, cooperative and effective relationships with students.g.Use correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuationh.Assure responsibility for supervising students.i.Demonstrate patience, warmth and a liking for children.D.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSIncorporated within one or more of the essential functions of this position are the following essential physical requirements:1.Ability to see for the purposes of reading instructional materials, documents and other printed matter, for observing students and for the safe operation of equipment.2.Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone.3.Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone.4.Ability to operate computer, typewriter, calculator, copy machine, telephone and other office equipment with dexterity and in a safe and efficient manner.5.Ability to routinely lift/carry office supplies, machines, and printed materials weighing up to 40 pounds.E.WORKING CONDITIONSSchool working environment subject to bending, crouching or kneeling to assist students, pushing/pulling and lifting of instructional equipment and supplies, sitting on chairs and/or floor and leaning over desks for prolonged periods of time and reaching in all directions.BOARD APPROVED:06/25/2007

Demonstrated experience supporting mixed Windows, Apple OS, Linux, Google Chrome, wireless, LAN, and VoIPA customer service orientation Ability to be a collaborative member of the tech team Strong communication skills
