The Technical Architect is a systems expert and responsible for definition, design, delivery, and support of various IT projects that integrate applications, software, and infrastructure. In this role you are a key member of the Middleware department, working with stakeholders throughout IT and the business to define the right approach that will best support both short-term and long-term goals. This is a hands-on position that requires a senior engineer and strategist with a great deal of systems engineering, networking, application development experience together with a very deep understanding of web communication technologies. Support of existing systems required with emphasis on automation, efficiency, and reliability.
Build, Integrate, and Automate
Write code, config, and extensions to integrate complex systems across various web communication methods.
Research, experiment, and implement new technologies to meet strategic platform needs.
Consult on integration projects and determine the best approach.
Create self-service capabilities in existing platforms and automate error-prone, tedious, manual process to eliminate toil.
Accountable for architectural integrity and technical debt.
Reviews the system architecture and ongoing development to identify improved approaches.
Analyze existing systems and make modifications to drive improvement to availability, latency, performance, efficiency, monitoring, and capacity.
Identify system requirements and recommend issues and alternatives for change. Able to report missing elements and explain the impacts on subsystems. Offers recommendations for correction.
Leads and makes changes in development maintenance and system standards.
Test and Troubleshoot
Perform unit testing and complex debugging.
Work with other teams to resolve problems or issues.
Build automated testing processes within CI/CD pipelines.
Define and report quality and quantity metrics on the performance of systems.
Write detailed technical documentation for entire systems (made up of several subsystems) and identify integration points.
Review technical specifications created by other teams for impacts to underlying systems.
Serve as a technical expert for large, complex projects that require skill and experience in multiple technical disciplines and process knowledge of a specific business area.
Estimate work efforts, evaluate priorities, track and report progress, and coordinate efforts across multiple teams.
Drive analysis of technical feasibility and feedback on new objectives, products, and projects.
Partner with all stakeholders to identify potential slippage or inter-team dependencies.
Scope project time and resource requirements incorporating into a singular scope document for integration points.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience
10 years of software development or systems engineering experience with high-throughput, high-availability applications
Experience with enterprise IT processes, collaborating with development teams, performance testing, security, and infrastructure
Extensive experience integrating both in house developed software and externally purchased software for large applications
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to document and explain designs to diverse audiences (technical, business, etc) and strong leadership skills to indirectly manage and influence across functional teams toward common solutions
Strong understanding of data exchange mechanisms like web services, SSH, APIs, and the supporting authentication and encryption technologies like mTLS, OAuth, and SSL
Understanding of web development methodologies, application design, navigation, and enterprise architecture standards and guidelines
Knowledge and ability architecting and managing complex systems with:
High throughput transaction processing, highly available clustered applications, operational datastore environments, enterprise datacenter implementations
Ability to work independently, under pressure, and with minimal guidance
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, supporting company leadership and other team members
Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities/tasks
Ability to use discretion and make sound decisions
Master level PC skills such as MS Suite products, flowcharting tools, e-mail and electronic calendar scheduling
Extensive knowledge of the health care/payer/provider/insurance industry, specifically standard HIPAA transactions processing systems, provider office operations, and customer service processes in a health care company a plus
Experience with Cloud Service Providers, including AWS and Azure, a plus
Must be flexible and embrace change
