The Opportunity

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Technical Accounting Manager to join the External Reporting Team in our Global Finance Headquarters in Waltham, MA. The role will join a current 4-person external reporting team, which is responsible for the administration and preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, technical accounting matters and implementation of new accounting standards. The Technical Accounting Manager role will be key to the organization in providing guidance around accounting policies, implementation of new US GAAP pronouncements, review of new and significant contracts and preparation of the quarterly financial reports. This role will have high visibility with Senior Finance Leadership and works in advisory capacity with all areas of the Finance.

The Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other members of finance in providing accounting guidance on complex and unusual transactions.

  • Lead technical accounting research and prepare white papers.

  • Review significant contracts for proper accounting, including significant revenue contracts for proper accounting under ASC 606.

  • Assist in the implementation of ASC 842.

  • Implement other new accounting pronouncements.

  • Coordinate with external valuations on significant acquisitions and act as liaison between external valuation experts and the external audit team.

  • Manage the continuous review and update of Global accounting policies.

  • Review financial statements to ensure compliance with global accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.

  • Assist in the review of journal entries during the monthly and quarterly closing process related to complex accounting areas such as derivatives, pension, stock-based compensation and business combination.

The Individual

  • CPA is required.

  • 7+ years of experience, primarily from public accounting.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and analytical skills.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as ability to interact with all levels of management.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The primary role for addressing technical accounting matters for our various business lines, including oversight of a captive insurance company. This role will draft white papers on the Company's critical accounting policies, unique transactions and material judgments referencing authoritative and industry guidance and staying abreast of new accounting literature and evaluating the impact on our organization. In addition, they will assist and help coordinate the risk-based internal audit program to assess, report upon and make suggestions for improving the Company's key operational and finance activities and internal controls in compliance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Responsibilities: * Help drive the strategy and vision of the Company by driving change * Implement the latest technology to drive efficiencies and ensure accuracy * Conduct research and provide succinct analysis and conclusions related to technical accounting issues as well as all financial reporting requirements * Assists in recruiting, training and evaluating staff; assists in developing and training for professional accounting associates * Assist with identifying, understanding and documenting policies and procedures * Prepare and establish annually with the help of outsourced service providers a risk-based audit plan for evaluating the effectiveness of controls in place to manage significant risk exposures, ensure the integrity and reliability of information and financial reporting to safeguard company assets, and comply with laws and regulations * Continually monitor and update the assessment of the control environment, keeping abreast of significant control issues, trends and developments * Coordinate with external auditors regarding test plans and coordinate the performance of testing of internal controls as part of annual external audits * Collaborate with management on remediation plans to address issues identified in the internal audit reports. Monitor progress of remediation to ensure timely compliance with internal control procedures * Assist with writing, implementation and ensuring effectiveness and practical implementation of corporate policies and procedures * Review accounting department business processes and suggest ways to improve such processes * Quarterly responsibilities include: * Primary reviewer of entries and reconciliations for areas including but not limited to stock compensation and equity * Reconcile GAAP to Non-GAAP reporting on a quarterly basis * Own the 302 certification and related party process * Prepare the financial statement disclosure checklists * Liaison with the finance department, internal legal counsel, internal audit department, compliance department, treasury, tax department and independent external auditors as well as auditors for the customer(s) we serve Requirements: * Strong and extensive knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SOX and internal controls * Familiarity with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) * Passionate and enthusiastic about process improvements, SOX and remaining up to date on current trends and practices * Ability to demonstrate objectivity and independence in the execution of responsibilities * Attention to detail, demonstrated integrity and professionalism * Extensive research skills and ability to reach well-reasoned conclusions * Critical thinking, detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to handle multiple deliverables at one time * Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare professionally written reports as well as interpersonal skills * Ability to use strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills to improve resolve problems and increase productivity * Ability to produce high-quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects and prioritize diverse tasks * Must thrive in a teamwork setting and have leadership experience in organizing, planning and executing projects from conceptualization through implementation across multiple internal and external reporting and organizational lines * Self-motivated, proactive and able to quickly adapt to change with a proven ability to adjust plans to meet changing needs and requirements * The preferred candidate would also have the following experience: * SEC registrants in the Healthcare or Real Estate/REIT industries * Consolidations * Workday, Financial Data Management Module Education/Training: * Bachelor or Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance * CPA certification, active license status required * Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Experience: * Seven (7+) plus years of experience in top-tier pubic accounting firms and/or public company environment * Extensive knowledge of SEC reporting, GAAP and internal controls Five Star Quality Care, Inc.
