Job Summary / Purpose
The primary responsibility of the Technical Accounting Manager is to support the Corporate Controller in leading the company's financial accounting and reporting responsibilities including US GAAP compliant financial statements, applying technical accounting expertise in agreeing complex accounting applications, assisting financial close, and other accounting activities. The Technical Accounting Manager will be responsible for a variety of aspects of the financial accounting and reporting process and will manage a small team providing input and direction to the broader controller team encompassing ca. 20 team members. The Technical Accounting Manager will collaborate with various stakeholders across various departments.
Essential Duties / Functions
Manages the financial accounting and reporting to the company's shareholders. Financial reporting shall consist of the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow and related disclosure items in compliance with US GAAP.
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
Research and analyze accounting guidance, including new standards and pronouncements, to assess their impact on the organization.
Provide technical accounting guidance and support to cross-functional teams on complex transactions, and lead efforts to document accounting conclusions and prepare technical accounting memos for management review. This includes, but is not limited to, complex derivatives and trading activities, lease accounting, fixed assets, revenue recognition, etc.
Close partnership with the Commodity Accounting Manager to ensure transparency in trading activities and support their compliant reporting, including derivative application and treatment of complex contracts and structured transactions.
Manages month end and year end close activities including reviewing and analyzing financial data, statements, and reports to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
Manages interim and year end audit processes with the external audit firm. Assists in coordinating PBC and other audit requests. Works closely with external auditors on controls questions, issues, and deficiencies.
Manages staff with monthly tasks, reviews and approves journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Lead and mentor the team's skills development, career path development, performance evaluations (including setting goals and objectives), and partner with leadership to manage team composition.
Fully supports company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities.
Special projects as required.
