Your Opportunity

This role will report to the Technical Accounting Manager.

As a Technical Accountant with New Relic, you will be responsible for maintaining key accounting policies, analyzing new accounting pronouncements, assisting with SOX efforts, and working on special ad-hoc projects.

The right person for this job has strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Has the ability to serve as a company-wide technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Review contracts and agreements, research relevant accounting guidance, and assist with whitepaper documentation

  • Coordination of SOX, including managing process documentation and supporting both the internal and external auditors

  • Support the implementation of new accounting standards across functional teams within the company where applicable

  • Maintaining and updating key finance accounting policies

  • Prepare impact analysis of new accounting pronouncements and present to management

  • Assist in month, quarter, and year-end close processes as necessary

  • Participate in streamlining and process improvement projects related to SOX

  • Support management in completing special projects, ad-hoc requests, and other assigned tasks

Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 2+ years of public accounting experience

  • Understanding of recent accounting pronouncements (ASC 606, ASC 842)

  • Ability to interact with all departments and levels throughout the organization

  • Strong analytical and communication skills

  • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize, and multitask

Nice-to-have:

  • CPA license

  • Experience working in a publicly-traded, high-tech, high growth company

Your mission: Maintain key accounting policies, analyze new accounting pronouncements, and lead preparation of month, quarter, and year-end financial statements/reports. What you'll be doing: * Perform technical accounting research, develop recommendations and prepare technical accounting memos for all accounting areas, including significant and non-routine transactions entered into * Manage the regular review and updating of the company's accounting positions and policies and ensure consistent application across the company * Lead the research and implementation of newly issued accounting pronouncements, including developing strategy and project management of the implementation, supporting accounting in the developing the ongoing procedures and controls post-implementation, and presentation of positions, implications and alternatives to management and external auditors * Manage the financial reporting process to ensure timely delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual required financial information and statements, as well as the related discussion and analysis to executive management, the board of directors and our lenders * Ownership of supporting workpaper documentation for the financial statements * Lead the preparation of subsidiary financial statements to meet all statutory obligations * Assist with the development of an internal control framework and documentation of internal control activities and policies * Lead the annual impairment testing effort, including coordination of external valuations (when necessary) and act as a liaison between external valuation experts and the external audit team. * Support various external audit requirements What we're looking for in you: * Collaboration: Working well with a range of people from across the business. * Communication: Communicates information, ideas, and concepts clearly * Analytical Skills: Able to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it; exhibits a probing mind and achieves penetrating insights. * Organization and Planning: Plans, organizes, and schedules in an efficient, productive manner; focuses on key priorities; manages time well * Attention to detail: Does not let important details slip through the cracks or derail a project. * Problem Solving: Provides practical solutions to problems.
