Nielsen is looking for a Tech Strategy Product Manager in Nielsen's Technology Strategy and Delivery organization to have end to end delivery ownership, cross team coordination, and data quality ownership for one of Nielsen's most significant television measurements

  • Local Television in the US. Within Local TV Nielsen has the following products

  • Nielsen Local TV View (NLTV), Local Monthlies, Local Dailies, Viewers In Profile (ViP), Local Measurement and Reporting Statistics, and more.

As a Tech Strategy Product Manager, you will need to gain an in depth understanding of the data that feeds our local products. You will partner with two main sets of stakeholders (1) our technical application development teams (2) our Data Science and operations teams . You will work closely with these groups to get an in depth understanding of the data currently deployed in our products. You will work with our technical application development teams to assist the teams in understanding the scope of the projects that impact our local data and the quality of the implementation. You will work closely with our Data Science and operations teams to best understand how we can meet requested needs, define the scope of the projects, and coordinate across cross functional teams as necessary.

Specific Responsibilities include but, are not limited to:

  • Lead, organize, and facilitate internal planning, solutioning and strategy sessions around quality and/or enhancements of products.

  • Write clear and concise users stories that can be implemented by the appropriate scrum teams; Includes defining user acceptance criteria that can be used to ensure the quality and accuracy of the feature being implemented.

  • Ensure appropriate sign offs are received from Tech Strategy teams for any changes as part of the Change Control process to minimize impact to data delivery.

  • Become a Subject Matter Expert for the Local TV area with an in depth understanding of the existing data.

  • Be the point person to define quality and assess if the tests planned meet our quality criteria.

  • Be proactive to review of Local TV data to ensure Nielsen is delivering to market commitments and reducing the potential for future quality escapes.

  • Hold teams accountable for creating and maintaining process and design documentation.

  • Coordinate with cross functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Occasional travel may be required.


  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, systems analysis or a related area or equivalent experience; an MBA is preferred but not required.

  • 5 + years in a dynamic business environment with at least 3 years of experience in technology-focused roles.

  • A bias for change and the ability to influence a team toward quality and success.

  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and/or Agile Methodologies preferred.

  • Strong communication, persuasion, interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing initiatives.

  • Able to listen and quickly distill a situation and recommend a course of action to drive on-time, on-budget delivery of project deliverables or client escalations.

  • Ability to translate between internal operations, technology, and client business needs.

  • Media, in particular advertising or research industry experience is a plus.

The portfolio supports one of Nielsen's most strategic initiatives, the new NANO Meter, and involves re-imagining/re-architecting tools that Operations uses every day to recruit, install, and manage their homes. A key focus for this position will be partnering with the Technical Product Owner to drive our Field Services initiative involving scheduling, route optimization, and resource management. An Operations Product Owner is accountable for designing and implementing E2E Operational solutions while driving product quality. Specific Responsibilities Include * Develop and provide new project/initiative definition and analysis using project charters to define business case and scope while outlining problem statement, goals and objectives and high-level project plans * Partner with key stakeholders to insure development of a thorough project plan with buy-in both from the design teams and the implementation/operations teams * Ensure measures are taken in projects to increase quality and mitigate risk, including risk analysis, impact assessment, and needs assessment, staffing and workload balancing, test planning and execution, contingency and deployment plans * Submit project status reports and other project information to key stakeholders and Global Watch management on a regular basis and as requested * Ensure Operations understands the impact of planned changes and how it affects their respective business unit * Define user requirements, specifications and functional design of new applications and changes to existing applications to meet strategic and/or quality needs * Ensure application functionalities meet the strategic deliverable requirements of Nielsen and enable Delivery Centers to operate at optimal efficiency and quality * Ensure that new user functionality/process documentation is created; manage development and implementation of UAT test cases, user training and deployment process as needed * Develop/coordinate & represent all business requirements for all new programs impacting Watch Operations. * Work across Operations to identify and prioritize Ops needs through Demand Management requests.
