Position Title: Sample Tech, Soft Goods
Location: Exton, PA
Reports To: Manager, Soft Goods Samples
This person will contribute to creation and delivery of first class product samples for evaluation by our internal team and our customers. In this role you will be heavily involved in all aspects of Soft Goods Sampling to create the next generation of products.
As Sample Tech you will work with teams located in Newell Brands' facility in Exton, PA. Taking direction from the Soft Goods Samples Manager, you will be responsible for the creation and delivery of Soft Goods Samples.
You will pay attention to all aspects of sample creation maintaining the standard of work and efficiency of delivery. Employing strong people skills you will partner with core Design specialisms such as ID, Color&Trend, Fashion, Usability and Craftsmanship.
This role requires an individual who can work independently as well as directly with our US based Design Team. The role offers opportunities to collaborate with Marketing, R&D, and Supply Chain. Your skills and experiences will be used to help ensure internal and external teams receive high quality samples for review in a reliable and timely manner.
Development Models: (Working Knowledge) Ability to sew prototypes with high accuracy, comfortable with high complexity designs. Able to easily determine appropriate equipment to use for assembly methods for soft goods samples. Comfortable using various types of industrial sewing machines for prototype assembly (single needle, buttonhole machine, binder, overlock, etc.) Able to apply a wide variety of decorative/trim elements to any sample
Construction Techniques: (Working Knowledge) Utilizes appropriate assembly and construction techniques for a sample based on existing construction specification as indicated on a finished sample. Uses advanced construction techniques to create a production quality sample. Identifies opportunities for improvement within own area.
Design Interpretation and Specification: (Working Knowledge) Capable of interpreting and following pattern documentation to use as reference to construct sample. Correctly identifies cut piece information on patterns and understands the relationship between cut pieces and related specifications.
Recognizes flat pattern shapes and can identify the construction steps and order of assembly to create samples from pattern documentation. Works autonomously.
Materials: (Working Knowledge) Capable of selecting correct fabric & filler materials according to product specifications. Knowledge of fabric and material application and associated limitations in sample making.
Explains different characteristics of fabrics and fillers. Understands that various cutting methods are needed for different fabrics and fillers
Digital Tools: (Basic Awareness) Understands applicable software options for digital creation and has awareness of the full range of digital graphic design tools
Minimum: Technical Qualification in Design related discipline
3 years of relevant experience
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in team environments
Ability to present in English.
