Sheltering Arms is seeking to hire a Life Skills Coach to work closely in conjunction (PYA and Education Specialists) to provide the opportunity for LSP youth to exercise, socialize and share common interest through organized recreational and cultural activities. All Staff involved will coordinate the delivery of services so that the youth will be able to achieve all goals of the PYA in accordance with NYS OCFS and ACS regulations. The work requires the application of specialized skills and training, planning and organizational skills to meet the particular needs of the group being served. Essential Functions: Ensure that youth in the LSP's are able to achieve their individual goals in collaboration with PYA Program including: * Youth will be encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their work and life decisions and their positive decisions are reinforced. * Youth will have permanent connections with an identified community recreation center that provides supportive services geared towards the youth's specific needs prior to discharge. * Youth will have permanent connections with caring adults. * Coordinates and facilitates structured activities/workshops for LSP residents and collaborating with PYA Specialist, lead groups in preparatory courses and trainings in PYA content areas. * Attend all meetings as required by supervisor, professional workshops and seminars to further knowledge and resources to provide to youth. * Work Closely with Ed/Life skills Coordinator to provide support and resources with respect to career assessment tools, life skill assessments and training. * Provide instruction to residents by explaining and demonstrating the proper techniques, procedures, and rules used in specific activities, games and sports. * Support the principles of the Integrated Treatment Model with the goal of teaching the young people to make positive, lasting changes in their behavior. * Evaluate the overall need, cost, quality, and effectiveness of activities and programs and recommend improvements and changes. * Complete face to face meeting with youth monthly and submit documentation to Ed/Life Skills Coordinator in addition to documenting contact with youth in connections. * Conduct regular safety inspections of recreation equipment and grounds. * Develop a weekly calendar for activities that is distributed to all LSP staff in conjunction with PYA events, workshops. Prepare announcements, bulletins, flyers, calendars, and other promotional material. * Requisition, secure, and inventory necessary materials, supplies and equipment. * Motivate residents to become involved in recreation programs by participating and leading specific activities. * Escort youth to department of motor vehicles to obtain NY State I.D. prior to youth's discharge date. * Collaborate with PYA Specialist to Plan and develop cultural activities with supervisor's approval. * Maintain collaboration with the Department of Education (DOE). * Maintain accurate documentation and complete the timely entry of progress notes into CONNECTIONS in accordance with state and agency standards within 5 days of the event date. * Support the principles of the Integrated Treatment Model (ITM) with the end goal teaching the young people to make positive, lasting changes in their behavior by preparing them to be self-sufficient through education and developing life skills. * Other duties that may be assigned. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in the Arts in Education, Health Education, Health Services Administration; Public Health; or related field required. * 2 years experience in a role where activities (arts, sports, etc) were facilitated with a group of teens. * Positive attitude and professional demeanor, good ethical and moral character * Must work well with others and have good written & verbal communication skills * Knowledge of recreational programming and the basic fundamentals of common recreational sports and activities. * Ability to operate a computer and associated software to prepare promotional materials, calendars, and reports. * Must be able to pass required Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms Children and Family Services. Ability to perform physical restraint of youth using approved restraint techniques.
