What does a Lube Technician do?

  • Drain motor oil, change oil filter

  • Wash windshield and adjust tire pressure

  • Inspect and top off fluids

  • Assist the customer in selecting oil type and other services

  • Process payment for services performed.

  • Perform coolant exchanges

  • Restock and maintain inventory levels on the floor

  • Maintain shop, office, and bathroom cleanliness


Good to Know Before You Start!

  • It might feel like you are studying for a test at the beginning. It's important that all employees gain a strong knowledge of our oils and services.

  • Must maneuver in and out of a shallow 3' deep pit used to position yourself safely under cars

  • You will walk, stand, bend, stoop, twist, etc. for extended periods of time and perform activities involving holding, grasping, pulling and turning

  • You may need to work in hot/cold weather conditions

  • Always be alert and aware of your surroundings

  • Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds

  • Need to have reliable transportation

Examples Of Duties Greases and lubricates equipment related to the transit service. Services vehicles: fills fuel tanks; changes and adds oil; maintains antifreeze protection; checks and cleans radiators; checks and adjusts tire pressure; checks and replaces batteries and battery cables; and checks and cleans spark plugs. Installs accessories as instructed. Performs routine preventive maintenance inspection and service as scheduled: keeps records of vehicles serviced; keeps records of work performed. Performs minor and routine repairs. Qualifications One year experience or training in servicing automotive equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must pass a DOT physical examination as prescribed by the City and carry the DOT Medical Card at all times. Must obtain an Iowa Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment. Knowledge and Skills Good Knowledge of: Routine safety inspection procedures. Work hazards and safety precautions. Standard lube and servicing procedures. Some Knowledge of: Construction, assembly, adjustment, and maintenance of gas or diesel vehicles and equipment. Methods and techniques used in tuning and adjusting internal combustion engines. Working Skill in: Interpreting service manuals and diagrams. Describing and recording automotive parts. Routine cleaning and servicing of automotive chassis equipment.
