Position Summary

In addition to DBMS focused Database Administration responsibilities (see below), this team lead role:

  • Provides day to day management for Database Administration team.

  • Displays the ability to lead multi-discipline technologies.

  • Support includes, but is not limited to, design, implement and maintain databases including access method analysis, access methods, performance, device allocation, data organization, protection and security and statistical methods including the development and monitoring of standards and procedures affecting database management, design and maintenance.

Database Administration Team Mission/Responsibilities:

It is the Database Administration Team's mission to provide excellent service for our organization by building and maintaining secure, stable, performant, and modern database servers and technologies with a focus on data integrity.

The Database Administration Team's responsibilities include:

Servers:

  • Install, configure and maintain Database System software to support the needs of the business in providing excellent service to Meritain's customers and partners.

  • Recommend and maintain appropriate sizing, resourcing and configuration of database servers to support customer requirements.

  • Assist in the design of servers to meet the requirements of the task or project.

  • Acquire and maintain software to assist in monitoring the performance and physical resources of data servers.

  • Provide 24/7 services and routing to address production issues uncovered through monitoring processes or as a result of stakeholder discovery.

  • Provide reports that can be used by stakeholders to review server usage and configurations.

Database Instances:

  • Assist in the design, creation, and assume responsibility for maintaining and monitoring databases in the environment.

  • Advise and assist in data modeling and database design when requested. Offer assistance with technical database implementation issues.

  • Maintenance of data server software to meet compliance requirements and sustain current licensing needs. Maintain servers at most recent release level where possible.

  • Provide and maintain tools to monitor database activities and create alerting systems for events.

  • Provide 24/7 response capabilities for production alert events.

  • Provide guidance and assistance with performance issues related to database usage.

  • Encourage standardization of usage and best practices and share best practice standards.

  • Maintain and oversee the processing of valid backups and understand Disaster Recovery processes.

  • Identify areas of potential concern and proactively address these with stakeholders, including suggesting process and performance improvements.

  • Develop and provide automated maintenance tasks.

  • Provide reports that users may review to analyze database activities and usage.

Data and Security:

  • Facilitate access to the data for approved users.

  • Grant access for users and Service Accounts to servers, databases, and data that is necessary or advantageous to their job with approved authority.

  • Use role-based authentication wherever possible and comply with modern security standards such as AD group authentication.

  • Advise and assist in the design and development of database access as required or requested by our stakeholders.

  • Create access at the minimum necessary permissions to meet the requirements of the user.

  • Provide reporting for user privileges by database instance to support any auditing or inquiry.

  • Limit access to sensitive and/or protected data per company policy.

Required Qualifications

  • SQL Server experience

  • Windows experience

  • Task/Incident management experience

  • Individual and team goals/accomplishments experience

  • On-call rotation oversight, provide secondary support

  • Security/Compliance oversight

  • Database monitoring oversight

  • Strategy oversight

  • Some people leadership

  • Leads the physical database design process.

  • Ensures database are high quality, cost-effective, maintainable, and contain solutions that can be leveraged. Ensures databases provide required functionality to meet identified business needs.

  • Participates in data architecture requirements discussions and recommends usage of appropriate database and data management technology (i.e. DBMS, MQ, Data Propagator, DRDB).

  • Ensures that all technology decisions are in compliance with standards for hardware and software integrity, are not disruptive and are supportive of business area and enterprise-wide initiatives.

  • Ensures that customer problems are solved in a timely and acceptable fashion.

  • Provides training, support and technical guidance to team members, as necessary.

  • NoSQL experience

  • Agile/Kanban experience

Education

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$106,605.00 - $247,200.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
