Position Responsibilities:

1.Assists in the performance of colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, insertion of PEG and PEJ tubes, PEG replacement and bedside procedures.

2.Correctly sets up procedure room for assigned procedure, inclusive of all needed accessories.

3.Tests endoscopes for proper function and white balances endoscope prior to start of procedure. Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or another Lead GI Tech Specialist.

4.Collects adequate tissue and other specimens during endoscopy procedures. Informs MD if more tissue is required.

5.Delivers specimen(s) to pathology and/or microbiology departments, obtaining required signature in specimen log.

6.Provides privacy, as well as a safe and comfortable environment for patients.

7.Actively participates in the universal protocol by making sure patients are identified by their name and date of birth.

8.Demonstrates the ability to pre-clean all endoscopes, by removing valves, utilizing cleaning brush to clean all internal channels, and wiping exterior surfaces with prepared disinfectant solution. Properly rinses endoscope with clean water until clear.

9.Demonstrates the ability to follow proper technique when placing endoscopes into automatic endoscope re-processor, including leak testing all endoscopes prior to pre-cleaning, accurately placing sterilant concentrate into tray, and properly disposing of biohazard waste.



  1. Demonstrates the ability to activate glutaraldehyde solution , including performing daily test strips for solution efficacy, and documents findings in log book.

  2. Demonstrates the ability to perform Whole Blood Glucose Testing in accordance with the IFU.

  3. Discontinues IV catheter/site and apply dressing as directed by Registered Nurse.

  4. Restocks procedure room with needed supplies, including those cases performed in radiology.

  5. Safely transports patients, equipment, supplies and/or medications to other needed areas of the medical center.

  6. Takes call rotation, and returns calls from RN and/or MD within 15 mins. from time of placement of call.


Qualifications:

CPR Certification required. Completion of SGNA Associate Program within 3 months of hire.

HS Diploma or equivalent

Position Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to and complies with all regulatory standards globally to profession and specific to unit

  • Understands all new physician orders must be implemented within two hours of initiation for routine and within 30 minutes or less for stat

  • Understands and is able to prepare patient for invasive and / or non invasive medical procedures ensuring universal protocol compliance

  • Understands and is able to administer medication per physicians orders adhering to the hospital approved patient identifiers, following the 5 rights of patient medication administration

  • Utilizes chain of command to communicate changes in patient condition and initiate timely interventions to prevent negative patient outcomes

  • Maintains current licensure and annual competencies as specific to assignment, keeping written evidence on file at all times

  • Understands the procedures to ensure continuity of patient profile/kardex and/or procedure preference cards or other unit specific tools, in a timely manner

  • Assures continuity of patient care assessment and reassessment as per policy

  • Ensures and understands the safety aspect of clinical alarms

  • Follows the National Patient Safety goals as required

Follows Patient Safety goals as established by the department; supports effective responses to adverse and sentinel events; provides an on-going proactive approach to reduce risk; integrates patient safety as a priority into new and existing processes

  • Is available to participate as a member of either Team A or Team B of the Hurricane Activation Plan, as assigned

  • Reports incidents to supervisor and Risk Management department within required timeframe in accordance with medical center policy

  • Follows the completion of incident reporting policy

  • Complies with current Hospital security and safety polices

  • Performs initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and family

  • Assessment of chief complaint and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival to unit

  • Obtains and documents a complete nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors to develop an interdisciplinary plan of care within eight hours of admission

  • Performs and documents an accurate systems assessment at the beginning of each shift

  • Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention

  • Assesses patient education needs on admission and daily

  • Assesses psychosocial needs specific to patient's age, growth, and development

Qualifications:

  • Florida Registered Nurse License
  • BLS
  • Operating Room experience
