The Sabre Lodging team is focused on developing and maintaining the platform that supports the Hotels distribution needs of our Travel Network partners. This platform connects 170,000+ hotels to some of the world's largest online and offline travel agencies. All the applications are high volume, multi-instance and critical.
The Sabre Lodging team is looking for a Lead Systems Engineer with DevOps background/abilities to work closely with the application teams and stay involved in the entire lifecycle of a product/system. The team will Build and maintain an in-depth focus into the system where the primary responsibility is to insure that the system maintains high availability. The selected candidate will act as the custodian of operational requirements by implementing Mandatory Operating Standards (MOS) into products and promoting other engineering best practices.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
o Review and approve major changes (new application baseline, configuration) in production.
o Plan and exercise control over operational performance phases of product testing and analyze results to determine if products meet requirements
o Participate in critical change calls to support the System Owner and articulate Engineering concurrence or concerns reviewing significant changes or concerns with other Engineers as appropriate
o Preview and approve changes to architecture and system
o Participate in incident calls for the product or products supported by Engineer
o Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and lead where appropriate
o Follow up on the root cause, make sure it is remedied in the system
o Provide engineering guidance for testing scope and implementation processes
o Monitor and participate in critical system changes operational readiness reviews and production validation tests
o Participation in production validation activities with application team
o Review performance testing plans and results
o Review E2E document and sign off on its accuracy
o Review capacity forecast with system owner and capacity planning
o Understand the change management and release management lifecycles and the importance of their role in a production environment
o Ability to be an Administer for version control systems (SVN, GIT, etc.)
o Background with Tomcat and/or JBoss
o Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment
o Knowledge of J2EE (development background a plus)
o Help teams understand the organization's mandatory operation standards (MOS)
o Represent team on audits for MOS compliance
o Review and Approve/Reject/Defend exceptions against standards
o Understand the business function of the product/system
o Understand typical customer use of product/system
o Understand the upstream and downstream dependencies of the system
o Understand the failover mechanisms, retry behavior, and app configuration for the system
Operating Systems Administration:
Fluent in Linux (Redhat Enterprise) / Unix operating systems. Ability to determine if a problem is related to an application or OS.
Fluent in shell (bash/ksh) scripting and be able to program in Perl. TCL/Tk knowledge and F5 iRules knowledge is a plus. In-depth troubleshooting knowledge.
Understands TCP/IP network topology, and how routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers fit into the environment. Experience with F5 is a plus.
Ability to document a complex process in a detailed and organized fashion.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
