The What

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Team Lead

  • Mech./ Assembler is a key role within our manufacturing plant. The successful Team Lead candidate is responsible to ensure on-time delivery of all assembled components produced in our Assembly shop that includes:
  • Forestry and Mat Grapples

  • Tire Manipulators

  • Cable Reelers and Layout Booms; and

  • Wheel Loader Product Assemblies.

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

The How

  • Ensure all assembly activities are carried out in a safe and timely manner.

  • Responsible for all aspects of production within the assembly shop.

  • Minimize the cost of assemblies while attaining the highest quality products.

  • Must be able to read factory schematics and prints.

  • Use schematics and prints to diagnose hydraulic and electrical issues.

  • Strong leadership for all Assemblers.

  • Build strong work ethics and pride in one's work.

  • Responsible for daily KPIs.

  • Assign and schedule work to employees and work centers for optimal, on-time delivery.

  • Experience handling stressful situations while maintaining professionalism.

  • Ensure work is carried out efficiently and cost-effectively.

  • Provide input to engineering on assemblies.

  • Identify and as authorized implement Lean Manufacturing procedures that lead to efficiencies within the assembly area.

  • Ensure time and materials are being tracked to the job.

  • Adhere to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) metrics.

  • Mobility to move within department/plant as assigned.

  • Perform all other duties, as required, to meet customer and company quality and productivity needs.

  • Ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends as workload requires.

What we need

  • Understanding and practice of Lean Manufacturing Principles.

  • SyteLine manufacturing Software or equivalent.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in directing production workers.

  • Excellent organizational abilities, be innovative, having an eye for quality and detail.

  • Ability to read and interpret production drawings.

  • An all-around hands-on knowledge/experience of electrical and hydraulics.

  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, problem solving skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Five years prior experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic and/or Assembly Lead

  • Proficiency with technical machinery.

  • Physical strength to operate machinery.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment dealing with ad-hoc issues when required.

Education

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic

  • Supervisory Training or equivalent

  • Trade Certificate

  • High school diploma or GED

  • OFA Level 1 preferred

Physical demands

  • The role requires one to be able to stand, lift, walk, carry items ranging in weight from 5 to 35 lbs. Frequent pushing, pulling, benching, reaching and handling of machine equipment and parts. There may be long periods of standing, walking or sitting due to the nature of the role.

  • Basic use of tools and equipment will be required every day.

Work environment

  • Daily exposure to typical manufacturing areas may be required and will require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.

  • The work environment will include their own workstation or cubicle space equipped with a telephone, headset and computer as required for the job.

  • Will work in varying levels of heat and cold.

  • Team member must be mobile enough to navigate the manufacturing shop floor safely including walking and standing for up to four hours at a time.
