Responsibilities
Reporting to Manager, Global Supplier Quality this a key role to execute our global supplier quality vision and strategy for MSA.
The Team Lead
The successful candidate will build partnerships for MSA with suppliers who can demonstrate commitment to safety and sustainability and excellence in their quality system, process capability, product specificity, supply chain security, delivery reliability and total cost.
These strategies will ensure MSA's ability to meet its factory demand plans and therefore our customers' evolving expectations. This position will also drive consistent, disciplined use of the global standards, processes and tools developed to support quality strategies and ensure the consistent quality of MSA products throughout their lifecycle, including enabling effective resolution of inquiries related to supplied parts quality.
Supplier Quality team development and lead.
Identifies technical and human resource needs and recommends solutions to management
Lead frequent meetings with the Global Quality Team to ensure alignment and provide the support necessary for day-to-day execution.
Coach new members of Global Quality on department procedures.
Ensure self and team meet functional area key performance indicators (KPIs)
Define Personal Development & Training and discuss execution with the leadership.
Propose ideas for process/performance improvements, ensure alignment and drive to meet department goals.
Promote and ensure Interactions with other MSA functional areas by meeting regularly with other team leads and department managers
Measured by team performance with respect to department expectations and goals, communicated in MOVE meetings with manager.
Supplier Quality Management Processes
Collaborate with the Global Supplier Quality Manager on the department Vision, Strategy and Roadmap.
Guide team efforts in relevant functional area towards timely delivery of supplier quality tasks while meeting functional area goals and objectives
Perform complex and innovative analysis and/or contributions towards functional area objectives, providing guidance to other supplier quality engineers as well as collaborating alongside other MSA areas.
Represents functional area on MSA cross disciplinary teams including working with project managers, sourcing category managers and other stake holders throughout the entire development process
Routinely makes decisions regarding technical content (relevant to functional area responsibilities), priorities, scheduling and quality
Suggest and support review and deployment of Global supplier related procedures (supplier quality, sourcing, planning, R&D, Plant Quality).
Execute internal training and coach for global quality members.
Collaborate with the Global Sourcing team to strategize and alignment with goals and commodity strategies under your responsibility.
Classify suppliers according to the Quality Risk Assessment.
Support Plant Quality Sites on high priority and high complexity issues.
Execute SQD CI projects assigned to you and support team on their projects.
Work on supplied part continuous improvement projects and teams (VA/VE, Kaizen, VSM).
Supports material cost reduction efforts in collaboration with Global Sourcing.
Promote the MSA Operating System and its tools.
Define and lead corrective actions related to supplier issues
New Product Development Support
To be the Supplier Quality and Development responsible engineer to support the specific global commodity assigned to your responsibility.
Responsible to support and execute supplier related deliverables of MSA 3D/SPAP (APQP/PPAP).
Review and approve SPAP documentation provided by supplier proving they comply with MSA drawing and specifications.
Execute, give recommendation and support MSA 3D deliverables and prepare summary of project to support quality position on project gate review.
Participate and conduct supplier reviews of CTQ/DFMEA/PFMEA/Control Plans when applied.
Translate MSA quality requirements to suppliers and make sure they are understood and accepted.
Influence, recommend and defend Supplier Quality Position during sourcing supplier selection process based on quality risk criteria.
Execute supplier risk assessment and supplier audits.
Deploy supplier readiness and provide feedback to project team concerning risk & ability of potential supplier to fulfill our expectations. (travel at supplier may be required for this evaluation).
Identify and document business risks related to supplied parts and communicate internally.
Provide MSA 3D supplier risk summary to support project gateway approval.
Supplier Quality Development
To be the SQD responsible for a group of suppliers managing performance and maintaining relationship.
Manage the KPI of suppliers under your responsibility, run critical analysis in regular basis and define target suppliers to conduct improvement programs.
Perform QMS audits, process risk assessment and compliance risk assessment to the MSA Code of Conduct, MSA Supplier Handbook and Corporate & Social responsibilities.
Have a strong personal organization and structured supplier action plan trackers.
Maintain supplier related information and records.
Recommend and execute supplier risk assessment of process requirements to evaluate suppliers.
Qualifications
Skills, knowledge & abilities required:
Good written & oral English (daily contact with international suppliers).
Knowledge and experience with quality and problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, Poka-Yoke, Ishikawa Diagrams, SPC, CAPA.
Knowledge on IATF PPAP 4th
Knowledge and experience in Quality Management Systems requirements- ISO 9001 or similar (IATF 16949, AS 9001).
Manufacturing processes experience in some strategical areas
Knowledge on product test methods and laboratory test equipment.
Ability to read engineering drawings and understand and disseminate engineering information to the supply base.
Knowledge in Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams and SharePoint.
Education and experience required:
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering related discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Electronics)
Minimum 5 years experience within a Quality function focused on supplier management.
Experience building close working relationships internally and with suppliers
Project Management Experience (Global Experience is a plus)
Experience in a global/manufacturing multi-site organization.
Education & experience preferred:
Previous people and team management experience.
Knowledge and experience with Lean tools such as: Value Stream Mapping, Takt Time, Capacity Verification, Kaizen & Six Sigma.
CMM measurement equipment.
Audit skills
CAD SolidWorks drawing visualization.
Power BI.
ASQ certifications (CSQP, CQM, CQA, CQE)
Six Sigma Green Belt
