Position Title:

Health Information Management Team Lead


Pontiac, MI


M-F, Day Shift

Core Responsibilities:

  • Under limited supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides team leadership and resource management for HIM functional team units. Services include but are not limited to medical record completion, record maintenance and retrieval utilizing both paper and electronic patient record systems, document imaging processes, data collection and reporting, research, completion and filing of vital statistics, processing of dictated and loose reports, and membership on assigned committees or work groups.

  • Leads and participates in projects and is a resource for HIM staff assisting in training and mentoring.

  • Exercises significant independent judgment and has substantial latitude for unreviewed action.

  • Actively participates in daily operational work load.

  • Assists in scheduling staff and provides input on personnel actions.

  • Monitors and reports key performance measures which may include developing department goals and assisting in the assessment of goal attainment.

  • Provides interpretation of department functions and policies.

  • Serves as Health Information Management Department representative or liaison with patients, other hospital departments and community agencies.

  • Facilitates team meetings and prepares associated agenda and meeting minutes.

  • May perform other duties as necessary to meet company and department objectives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • One year of Medical Record experience.

  • One year of leadership experience.

  • Ability to navigate and utilize Microsoft Office and the ability to multitask in a fast paced ever changing health care services environment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply HIPAA guidelines to all aspects of assigned job duties.

  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements such Joint Commission/CMS related to timeliness and completion of medical records.

  • Medical terminology knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of Medical Record experience.

  • Active member of the American Health Information Management Association.

  • Previous document imaging, electronic patient record and/or clinical data repository experience.

  • Basic understanding of ICD-10 coding guidelines and principals.

  • Conflict resolution, discretion, diplomacy, tact and listening skills.

  • Leadership skills such as accountability, decision-making, coaching and counseling.
