Purpose of Position
The Student Success Hub offers a centralized comprehensive advising experience for all first-time NKU students, providing them with a sense of belonging at the university and the confidence to pursue their academic goals.
Using a coordinated care approach, student success coaches and advisors promote student success by helping students effectively transition to NKU, as well as gain the skills necessary to navigate academic, financial, and career planning.
The Student Success Hub aids students in progress toward completing their degree programs by providing a seamless transition from the first-year advising experience to a student's college and/or major academic advisors.
Key Goals for this position/unit:
Serve students in transition (from high school, transfer, first to second year)
Provide consistency in advising process and experience
Reduce Barriers that hinder student success
Promote belonging and inclusiveness
Assist in providing Coordinated Care
Primary Responsibilities
These responsibilities include attending college advising center team meetings or department meetings, providing updates around curriculum and program changes to advisors in the First Year Student Success Hub.
Additionally, Team Lead Advisors will oversee the First Year Advisors in the Student Success Hub with mentoring, training, and advising for first-year students in the cluster. Team Lead Advisors will be tasked with objectives that encompass coordinated care and are achieved through student-centered and proactive advising approaches designed to foster student success.
Objectives include:
Supporting the transition of first year students from various backgrounds, starting at the point of admission to the university through the end of their first year
Providing onboarding assistance through the new student orientation process
Advising for course selection and scheduling
Serve as the point of contact for coordinated care
Following up with at risk students
Assisting with the planning and delivery of academic support programs
Creating student success strategies and outreach
Implementing the office's assessment plan for advising student learning outcomes
Making appropriate referrals
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records
Oversight of First Year Advisors and provide input into performance review
Qualifications
Team Lead Advisor
Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree with a minimum of three to five years of direct academic advising experience or similar student support experience in a higher education
setting. Qualifications also include demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to work with and guide a team.
Preferred qualifications are a Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Communication, Education, with related experience in a related academic discipline in academic advising. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to articulate an understanding of student development theory, experience working with diverse and underrepresented student populations. Other experience could include working with first year students, first generation students, transfer students, and other unique populations. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills are required. Ability to work with diverse populations, strong teamwork skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks are also required..
