VIEW JOBS 5/21/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-08-19T00:00 * Duties Help Duties Summary The Northern Rockies Servicing Human Resources Office (NR SHRO) is currently seeking applicants to fill at least three permanent Painter positions at Yellowstone National Park. AREA/HOUSING INFORMATION: Positions may be located at any of several locations within Yellowstone National Park. Most duty stations are 40-50 miles from the nearest gateway community with services (grocery stores, motels, restaurants, medical offices). A medical clinic is available in Mammoth Hot Springs. Park Headquarters are located at Mammoth Hot Springs, elevation 6,200 feet. Temperatures in the park may vary from negative 40 degree Fahrenheit or colder to 80 degrees above zero during the summer and winter months. Schools are available with kindergarten through 12 located in Gardiner, Montana, five miles north of headquarters. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles of Mammoth. Housing is not provided, but may be available thru a competitive process. These positions are located in Yellowstone National Park, in the Maintenance Division. Please visit find a park for additional park information. These are Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Yellowstone National Parkis March through October, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities * The primary purpose of the position is to perform the full range of painting, including surface preparation, blending and matching paints, and coating of various surfaces requiring decorative and other effects. * Prepares various surfaces of interior and exterior components of buildings and other structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, filling cracks, sanding and applying fillers and base coats. * Washes and sands surfaces as necessary and treats them with oil, turpentine, or other preparations. Selects more sophisticated methods of surface preparation when necessary to ensure a high quality, decorative finish. * Mixes, thins, blends, matches, tints and tones coating materials. Adds pigment/thinners to gauge change of color tone and drying properties. Mixes stains, epoxies, enamels, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, plastic paints, bituminous paints, etc. * Applies coating materials using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other means of applications. Applies coating techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements. * Sets up, adjusts, and operates spray painting equipment or other power painting equipment. Sands between coats and rubs or polishes final coats as necessary to obtain proper adhesive between coats and specified finishes. * May bake finish on enameled and painted articles. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment. * Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Uses and maintains tools. Uses brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, viscosity testers, thickness gauges, compressors, and common hand and power tools to do the work. * Maintains records and documents actions. May perform other trades work for no more than 20 % of the time. Qualifications Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written application that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Examples of experience for this position include: 1) Applying special finishing techniques such as marbling and graining; 2) Using coating materials that are prepared in special as well as common ways; 3) Applying coating techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements; 4) Determining the methods, techniques, devices, and materials that are best suited to the surface finish required, such as glossy finish, grained effect, or a finish that must meet specified thicknesses and levels; 5) Preparing surfaces by methods such as smoothing with pumice and rottenstone, filling, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins, and mixing and applying pre-coating agents; 6) Preparing coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, blending, and mixing in various additives; AND 7) Applying coating materials with any of the accepted trade devices including those designed to give special effects, for example, brushes, rollers, spray guns, and graining devices. Finished work meets match, texture, decorative, thickness, and level requirements.
