We have an opening for a Welding Engineering Technology Teaching Technician at our Chattanooga State campus!

Summary: Supervise and maintain responsibility over the welding laboratories and equipment. Perform regular routine maintenance on laboratory tools and equipment (clean, lubricate, inspect for safety hazards), tag equipment for maintenance identification; schedule calibration of equipment; repair malfunctioning or damaged equipment as applicable. Perform specific duties related to instruction; course and curriculum development; professional growth; service to students, and service to the college and community. Deliver classroom, laboratory, or related welding instruction according to ABET accreditation guidelines. Support AWS-Accredited Testing Facility functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Develop, adapt, and improve programs and services in response to the needs of changing environments, populations served, and evolving institutional priorities

  • Provide educational opportunities and experiences to students in leadership, social responsibility, intercultural understanding, and global citizenship

  • Utilize classroom and lab instruction, student assessment mechanisms, and classroom management techniques to provide an engaged learning experience to students

  • Ensure that each student has been presented with the material to successfully meet the learning objectives of each course within a student's program of study

  • Ensure that instructional materials and equipment are ready for student use, sufficient in quantity, are properly maintained and are in working order prior to class time

  • Provide technical support to other engineering technology technicians and assigned engineering laboratories

  • Provide support for AWS-ATF testing, inventory ATF supplies; communicate with ATF personnel about materials and resource needs; order and receive materials to procedure requirements

  • Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices

  • Maintain a solid understanding of College goals and priorities as they relate to the student experience

  • Participate in ongoing faculty assessment and professional development activities to ensure an active and engaged classroom experience for all students; maintain required certification and license

  • Actively participate in meetings, review and analyze assessment data, compile reports, and meet academic and administrative deadlines

  • Ensure campus compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory bodies' guidelines, along with internal policies of the College

Holistic Student Support

  • Model compassionate professionalism as an example to students

  • Understand the idea that not everyone learns in the same way (i.e. to improve the learning, we can tailor our strategies, rather than just trying harder, studying more)

  • Integrate programs, activities, and initiatives to optimize the student experience

  • Provide a list of student resources and introducing many possibilities for learning that go beyond the student's current practices

  • Prompt students to select and try various study strategies

  • Monitor student progress to promote student success

  • Provide counseling resources as needed

Required Qualifications: Completed accredited US Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) in Pipefitting or Welding with three years documented experience at the journeyman level or a Welding Technology diploma from a Tennessee College of Applied Technology or an Associate's Degree in Welding Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a closely related discipline from a regionally accredited university or college; or a current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) certification; three years teaching or instructional support experience.

similar accredited technical college with five years documented experience as a welder; prior teaching experience is a plus. Must be proficient in areas GMAW, STAW, SMAW, FCAW, oxyacetylene welding, metallurgy, oxyfeed and plasma arc cutting.

Special requirements and conditions

Flexible schedule and some travel required; must have a valid vehicle operator's license.

Work with dual-enrollment high school students (background check will be required).

Projected Salary Range: $39,499 - $47,403
