Overview

The Research Scientist in the Center for Empowering Teaching Excellence (ETE) will support the mission of ETE in cultivating opportunities and resources for instructors to contribute to current scholarship on teaching and learning. Under the supervision of the Director of Teaching Excellence, this position will contribute to a number of digital publication projects including the Empower Teaching Open Access Book Series, the Journal for Empowering Teaching Excellence, and other scholarly peer-reviewed publications. The ideal candidate will possess strong research skills, experience in academic publishing, familiarity with the scholarship of teaching and learning, and a keen eye for detail. They will be responsible for conducting educational development research, managing manuscripts, and collaborating with authors and editors to produce high-quality scholarly work. This role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

Typical Functions:

1.Collects, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data in preparation for generation of statistical and analytical reports.2. Maintains digital collection and tracking of relevant data.3. Maintains appropriate records of research process, methods, and results.4. Designs and/or develops specific databases for collection, tracking, and reporting of data, as appropriate. 5. Utilizes specified statistical software to analyze and interpret research data.6. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Research and Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct literature reviews, analyze data, and synthesize findings.

  • Writing and Editing: Proficient in academic writing, editing manuscripts for clarity, coherence, and adherence to publication standards.

  • Project Management: Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met, and coordinating with authors and editors.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in reviewing submissions for accuracy, formatting, and compliance with journal guidelines.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with authors, reviewers, and editorial boards.
