POSITION: The Science and Mathematics Education program, housed in the School of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Sciences (STLES) in the College of Education and Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University is accepting applicants for a Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor -Mathematics Education, to begin August 2024. Candidates for the Teaching Assistant Professor must have an earned doctorate by the start of the semester in August; candidates for the Teaching Instructor must have a minimum of a master's in mathematics education or related area.

The Science and Mathematics Education (SMED) program prepares students to be leaders in both formal and informal education settings. The mathematics education faculty participates in partnerships with schools in Oklahoma and participates in research grants and collaborations through the Center for Research on STEM Teaching and Learning (CRSTL), which offers a unique platform for research opportunities.

Mathematics Education faculty teach undergraduate mathematics education courses within the elementary education and OSUTeach (secondary) programs. In addition to offering undergraduate coursework both on-campus and online programs, the program offers graduate courses in support of Master of Mathematics and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. This faculty member will join a group of science and mathematics education faculty who are active as researchers, instructors, and grant writers, and who are significantly involved in a variety of national organizations.

The new faculty should demonstrate an interest in the university's land grant mission, and a desire to make a positive impact on the community through service, extension, and outreach efforts. The faculty should build positive relationships with the K-12 school community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities for this faculty position include:

  • Teaching undergraduate elementary and secondary mathematics education and graduate K-12 mathematics education courses; and

  • Participating in committee service to the program, department, college, university, and community.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching Assistant Professor must have an earned doctorate by the start of the semester in August; candidates for the Teaching Instructor must have a minimum of a master's in mathematics education or related area;

  • Minimum of three years of successful, full-time, 6-12 classroom teaching experience in U.S. public schools;

  • Evidence of or potential for effective, undergraduate and graduate instruction in a broad range of mathematics education topics;

  • Evidence of collegiality and collaboration at both the higher education levels and with public school communities; and

  • Commitment to educational and social equity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

● 5 years 6-12 teaching experience

● Experience teaching and working with elementary and/or secondary preservice teachers;

● Strong technology integration skills; and

● Experience in teaching and learning in online learning environments.
