What does this role entail?

ACCEL teaching fellows work with lead teachers to close the achievement gap for all students in the school. Teaching fellows are fully involved in lesson design and execution, gaining deeper understanding of rigorous, relevant instruction to meet a diverse group of students' needs. The teaching fellows' relationships with their mentors also provide an opportunity to develop their relationship building, classroom management, and trauma-informed teaching skills.

In addition to ongoing support from veteran, highly effective teachers, our teaching fellows also receive personalized development and coaching every week. Our teaching fellows program allows educators new to the profession an opportunity to jump-start their careers and forge their paths to lead teaching long term.

ACCEL teaching fellows will collaboratively plan with lead teachers across the campus to design coteaching and parallel teaching lessons. Teaching fellows will then take these lessons live in the classroom, facilitating alongside an experienced educator.

Teachers' hours will be 7:30AM - 3:30PM daily, with the student academic day running from 8:00AM to 3:00PM on Mondays through Thursdays and 8:30AM to 12:30PM on Fridays. There will also be an option to teach during the evening and after-school tutoring programs for additional compensation. Teachers will be permitted to work up to 10 hours per week in the evening program or the after-school tutoring program for day students. Teaching fellows may work part-time or full-time in their role.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide small group and one-on-one targeted intervention and support to students during station rotation within the class periods.

  • Participate in regular interim data meetings with team teachers and administrators.

  • Engage in weekly administrative observations and coaching meetings.

  • Actively participate in 2 hours per week of targeted professional development.

  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Set and maintain consistent and high academic and behavioral expectations.

  • Keep an accurate record of student performance.

  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of students' records.

  • Engage in daily school operations, which may include hallway duty, monitoring lunches, or taking on substitute teaching duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or an undergraduate junior enrolled in a local university (3.0 GPA required for current students)

  • Experience working with young people in a socio-economically disadvantaged community (highly preferred)

  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students

  • Growth mindset driven by personal reflection and an openness to feedback

  • Good problem-solving abilities and creativity

  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organization skills

Salary Range: From/To Salary will be commensurate with experience and the determination of part-time or full-time employment status.
