We are one of the citys largest providers of community school programs and school-based mental health services.
PWC recently merged with the Center for Arts Education (CAE), an organization that has delivered high-quality arts education programs that nurtures the development of social and emotional learning in NYC public school students as a core part of their pre-K to 12th grade education. PWC and CAEs programs and approach are rooted in an understanding of the impact of poverty and trauma on children, a steadfast commitment to antiracism, and expertise in childrens social-emotional wellbeing.Position Title: Teaching Artist
Start Date: Hiring on a rolling basis throughout the Spring of 2022.
Location: In-person at partnering schools across the five NYC boroughs.Program & Job Description:
PWC/CAE is looking for qualified Teaching Artists to work with students across a variety of programs. An ideal candidate will be experienced in teaching their respective art form and expertise such as Music, Movement, Visual Art, STEAM, etc.... to groups of children in a school setting and is either skilled in a variety of art forms or specializes in one art form or style. An ideal candidate is willing to work with CAE staff and schools administrations to help determine and design dance programming that will best fit the needs of the school communities we serve. This listing is not for a specific TA position, but rather for the opportunity to be added to PWC/CAEs Teaching Artist Database, meaning youd be on the short list of contacts for relevant opportunities as they arise.Qualifications:
CAE/PWC is seeking motivated, flexible, adaptable, and positive Teaching Artists to join us in facilitating Dance programming. The right candidate will:
  • Have at least 2 years' experience as a Teaching Artist in their respective art form and expertise, ideally in NYC public schools.
  • Hold a strong understanding of arts integration best practices and strategies.
  • Focus on the intersection of the arts and Social Emotional Learning/Competencies.
  • Possess strong collaboration skills with classroom teachers, other teaching artists, social workers, administrators, etc.
  • Have experience lesson planning/creating curriculum for K-12 students.
Requirements:
  • TA must be vaccinated and can provide proof upon request.
  • TA must be fingerprinted by the NYC Department of Education (PETS Certified) and currently eligible for work in NYC public schools.
  • TA must be willing and available to plan with partner teachers, partner social workers, and/or school staff members, as necessary.
  • TA must submit all paperwork, such as lesson plans, in accordance with programguidelines.
  • TA must attend and actively participate in all required orientations and Professional Learning workshops, and meetings.
  • TA must be respectful of teachers and school administrators timelimitations.
  • TA must maintain open communication with CAEs Teaching and LearningDepartment staff.
  • TA must clarify classroom management strategies with school partners and rely on teachers, social workers, and school personnel for disciplinary actions.
  • TA must utilize their artistry and pedagogical knowledge to implement an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning that encourages students to engage, create and reflect.
