The Lourie Center for Children's Social & Emotional Wellness is a private, non-profit agency with a mission to improve the social and emotional health of young children and their families through prevention, early intervention, education, research and training. The Lourie Center has four core programs serving children birth through age 12 and their families: Head Start, The Lourie Center School, The Therapeutic Nursery Program and Parent-Child Clinical Services.

The Teachers Aide: .

  1. provides instructional support to the assigned child with the goal of increasing the child's level of independence.
    2.Assists the teacher in the development and preparation of materials to be used with this child.
    3.Assists the child during group activities.
    4.Assists the teacher and the interdisciplinary team in the formulation and implementation of therapeutic and behavior management strategies for this child in the program.
    5.Assist the teacher in development of Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Plan for assigned child.
    6.If requested, accompanies, participates, or observes the child in therapy sessions and, within the classroom, facilitates the child's progress toward academic and social-emotional goals.
    7.Records observational data on student behavior at the pre-designated intervals in collaboration with teacher and interdisciplinary team.
    8.Available to physically restrain child in instances of imminent danger to self or others.
    9.Reads the child's reports and Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  2. Participates in the school's interdisciplinary team meetings, workshops, and other selected Lourie Center staff meetings.
  3. Continues professional education in special education or a related discipline by attending internal or external workshops, conferences, and/or coursework.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher, especially when the designated child is absent or progressing enough that constant physical guidance or proximity is no longer necessary. When the teacher is absent, the aide's specific role and tasks are designated by the teacher in advance and performed in collaboration with the Teacher Assistant for the day.

Qualified candidates must possess:

Bachelor's degree in education, child development, psychology or related discipline.

Basic knowledge of child development is required.

Minimum of one year work experience with special needs children (i.e. school, camp, counselor, child care work, college practicum experiences, etc).

Active BLS CPR card

M-F 8a-4p
