PAY SCHEDULE: As per REA Collective Bargaining Agreement and Experience -

EFFECTIVE: Immediately

GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:

The Coordinator, Career &Technical Education (CTE) assists staff in administering, monitoring, and implementing the requirements for a quality CTE requirements. The CTE coordinator meets with CTE teachers, with local, regional, statewide members of the public involved in CTE, workforce development boards, community colleges, and professional learning communities to support implementation of CTE program requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.

  • Relevant industry or work experience

  • Previous Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching experience, leadership experience, alternative education, and independent study school experience is desirable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work well with people and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge and appropriate use of research-informed instructional practices to help all students, in particular those who are historically marginalized, to develop identity and agency in CTE.

  • Ability to use observational data and formative assessment processes to guide professional learning.

  • Proficiency in technology-based instructional and organizational tools

  • Willingness to invest in one's own learning through professional reading, active participation in professional learning workshops, and attendance at local, state, and national professional conferences for the purpose of professional growth

  • Ability to provide and receive feedback in order to adjust practice

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with and promotes high quality curriculum and instruction aligned with the Michigan CTE Model Curriculum Standards helping to provide a coherent sequence of CTE courses that enable pupils to transition to postsecondary education programs that lead to a viable medium to high wage career pathway or livable wage upon graduation from high school.

  • Provides leadership for enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational innovations into the CTE program.

  • Collaborates with the instructional leadership team in the formation and implementation of instructional policy, philosophy, documentation, implementation strategies, and selection of appropriate CTE resources for the entire school program. Develop short and long-term plans for supporting and expanding rigorous CTE programs and Career Pathways including the development of competency-based curriculum; rigorous, project-based, and applied learning experiences; the integration of instructional technology and work-based learning opportunities for students; and the implementation of the CTE Model Curriculum Standards, Michigan State Standards, 21st Century Skills and knowledge of the 11 elements of a high quality CTE program.

  • Monitor, track, implement, and seek out CTE programs and opportunities for funding sources including Carl D. Perkins Career Technical Education grant.

  • Participate in the preparation and administration of the CTE program budget; submit budget recommendations; work with the fiscal services team on the expenditure reporting requirements of all career technical program grants, budget revisions, quarterly claims, and expenditure reports.

  • Knowledge of the continuous improvement cycle to assess growth and implement plans for improvement of programs.

  • Understanding of the CTE Credentialing and completion process.

  • Make recommendations for long-term adjustments, changes, additions, and deletions in the CTE programs to meet changing job trends and labor market needs.

  • Work with school counselors to ensure all students have completed a career interest survey and personalized learning plan that is revisited annually.

  • Understand and use Labor Market Information (LMI) to determine course offerings that reflect future job market needs locally and regionally.

  • Align student interests and potential industry partnerships to prepare students for internships making a connection between teachers, students, and industry.

  • Utilize local and state data to evaluate student progress and guide CTE program decisions to ensure growth and sustainability of a high quality CTE program.

  • Monitor program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to provision of related programs and services.

  • Coach and mentor staff as assigned to the CTE program.

  • Maintains confidentiality.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full time employment: The amount of contract, length of the workday and the number of workdays at this time is determined by the particular building and collective bargaining agreement.
