POSITION: Art Teacher

LOCATION: Merry Acres Middle School

JOB SUMMARY:

The Dougherty County School System is seeking a middle school art teacher to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. As a Middle School Art Teacher, the individual will play a crucial role in fostering creativity, self-expression, and artistic exploration among students.

The primary responsibility is to design and implement engaging art lessons that cater to the unique developmental needs of middle school students, fostering their artistic skills and appreciation for the visual arts. The teacher will be responsible for preparing and implementing engaging lessons that address the academic needs and rigor of all students while providing a positive learning environment that encourages lifelong learners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors' degree or higher;

Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver Eligible;

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Excellent communication and organizational skills;

Ability to relate to and motivate all students in a positive manner with respect;

Ability to effectively navigate and utilize a wide range of educational and career-related technology tools, software applications, and digital platforms while engaging students;

Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;

Be present, organized, and enthusiastically committed to the success of all students;

Develops detailed, engaging instructional plans;

Implements a comprehensive art curriculum that aligns with educational standards and encourages students to explore various artistic mediums, techniques, and styles;

Conducts dynamic and interactive art lessons that cater to diverse learning styles, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Provide clear instructions and constructive feedback to help students refine their artistic abilities;

Guides students in developing fundamental art skills such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media. Encourage them to think critically about art, analyze visual elements, and express their ideas through creative projects;

Integrates technology into art lessons to enhance the learning experience, incorporating digital tools and resources that align with contemporary art practices;

Collaborates with colleagues, parents, and the wider school community to create a holistic educational experience for students. Participate in art-related events, exhibitions, and community outreach programs;

Implements effective methods for assessing student progress and understanding;

Provides timely and constructive feedback to students, and communicate progress to parents and school administrators;

Instructs designed classes in accordance with formulated plans and outlines, modified as necessary to achieve the learning objectives; all within the policies of the school system;

Maintains the degree of discipline and order in the classroom necessary to effectively instruct students;

Counsels with students and parents on learning and discipline problems as necessary;

Supervises or assists in the supervision of school activities as assigned;

Performs related duties as assigned as circumstances require;

Completes all records and reports on time and with accuracy;

Maintains satisfactory performance on the system Evaluation Instrument;

Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: 10 month contract. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
