START DATE: ASAP
WORK DAYS: 190 if work begins in August
PAY: for the 2024-25 school year, $45,171.48 - $88,774.52 depending on experience and education level, plus a $3,000 stipend; we also pay your PERS retirement contribution

JOB GOAL: To provide special education and instruction to students in the structured learning program, coordinate the building-level special education program, and ensure compliance with IDEA requirements, paperwork, and documentation

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Bachelor's Degree and current valid Oregon Special Education Teaching License
Ability to utilize effective, positive classroom and behavior management techniques
Ability to maintain the strength of knowledge and practice in instructional skills and strategies
Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with a diversity of public and district personnel using tact, courtesy, and good judgment
Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students
Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information
Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds
Ability to work effectively in an environment that can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform physically demanding requirements of the job
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of subject matter, seek professional growth, improve classroom instruction, and qualify for license renewal by following both state and district regulations
Perform physical requirements, which may include:

A. Moderate to extensive degree of physical and emotional stamina
B. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting
C. Frequent and prolonged talking/hearing conversation
D. Possess near/far visual acuity/depth perception
E. Possible exposure to bodily fluids in assisting students with using restrooms and tending to injury and illness. The School Board or the Administration may deem an alternative to the above requirements appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may also be assigned):
Plan and Deliver Instruction: Develop and implement individualized lesson plans to meet the unique needs of students in the structured learning program. Use a variety of instructional strategies to promote student engagement and progress
Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess students' academic and social-emotional progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Keep detailed records of student performance
Differentiated Instruction: Adapt curriculum, materials, and teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles, abilities, and challenges within the classroom
Behavioral Support: Provide behavioral support and intervention strategies to help students develop self-regulation and social skills. Collaborate with behavior specialists and support staff as needed
Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to promote an inclusive and supportive school environment
Participate in determining student eligibility for special education programs and assist in developing the assessment summary. Evaluate the needs and abilities of assigned students and prescribe appropriate learning activities for each student
Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with parents and guardians to update them on student progress, challenges, and successes. Foster a positive and collaborative relationship with families
Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in special education and structured learning strategies. Participate in professional development opportunities and training
Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment that fosters positive behavior and learning
Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with criterion-referenced present performance levels, measurable short-term objectives, and annual goals related to assessment results in accordance with IDEA
Schedule and conduct IEP meetings
Plan and implement, as required by IEP, the student's program by selecting specific activities, materials, and methods as related to diagnostic findings and recommendations of the evaluation team
Explain assessment results to and develops corresponding recommendations for teachers and parents
Serve as a member of the building student services team
Serve as a member of the assessment team for students with disabilities
Serve as a member of the student services assessment team
As case manager, complete and maintain records in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations
Provide consultation assistance as needed by building staff
Direct and assign activities to assigned instructional assistants, volunteers, and other para-professionals
Provide consultation services to school staff related to the major concepts of the preventative approach
Provide in-service related to the developmental process, parenting skills, and community resources
Participate in staff development activities as offered
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents/guardians concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students
Use interpersonal skills to consult with parents, classroom teachers, instructional assistants, and volunteers on the individual programming needs of students
Initiate and maintain communication with colleagues
Attend meetings and serve on committees as directed
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, parents and staff
Act as a friendly ambassador of the North Santiam School District
Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
1.Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement as required
2.Possess a valid First Aid card if required
3.Possess a valid Oregon Driver's License if required
4.Bloodborne Pathogens Training/Hepatitis B Shot Series Training if required
