Special Education ASSIST Teacher

.2 FTE Leave Replacement for the 2024-25 School Year

The ASSIST (Active Student Support for Independence, Skills and Transition) special education program typically serves students with severe developmental disabilities and multiple disabilities. The ideal special education teacher will have training and experience working with students with a variety of behaviors and cognitive, physical, communication, social and sensory disabilities. The ASSIST classroom requires a teacher who works well in a team environment and can provide direction to para-educators. The ASSIST teacher is expected to work in partnership with parents, general education teachers and specialists. Lifting and transferring of physically disabled students is a job requirement. Training in verbal and physical de-escalation strategies is required prior to assignment and must be maintained in this position. Experience in IEP writing and using IEP Online is preferred.
