MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS REQUIRED:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree and hold appropriate Indiana Special Education certification.

SALARY BENEFITS: Salary range $52,750-96,000

ASSIGNED WORKDAYS PER YEAR: 185 days

GENERAL FUNCTIONS/PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The primary function of the special education teacher is to plan, guide and evaluate the learning process of the students for whom they are responsible.

  • Able to work effectively and communicate with a wide range of students, staff and administration.

  • Proficient and competent demonstration of reading and writing capabilities.

  • Strong human relation skills, including professional tact, diplomacy and presentation.

  • Multi-tasking ability and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to utilize 21st century technological skills to enhance teaching and learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Uses data effectively to guide and to differentiate to meet the individual needs of students. (1.1)*

  • Demonstrates a wide variety of objective-based lesson preparations that are aligned to state content standards. (1.2)Matches instructional strategies, as well as meaningful relevant activities and assignments, to meet lesson objectives. (1.3)

  • Designs formative assessments that measure progress towards mastery and informs instruction. (1.3)*

  • Maintains and analyzes accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, Article 7, district policy and administrative procedures. (1.4)*

  • Develops student understanding and mastery of lesson objectives. (2.1)*

  • Demonstrates content knowledge and delivers instructional material that is factually correct, clear, concise, well organized while adjusting for student needs. (2.2 & 2.5)*

  • Provides multiple ways of engaging students with content aligned to the lesson objectives by utilizing a variety of learning modalities and intelligences. (2.3)*

  • Uses a variety of methods to check for understanding that are successful in capturing the teacher's knowledge of the students' understanding. (2.4)*

  • Develops a higher level of understanding through rigorous instruction and student engagement. (2.6)*

  • Maximizes instructional time. (2.7)*

  • Creates a classroom culture of respect, collaboration, and student safety. (2.8)*

  • Establishes a classroom environment that promotes high expectations for the academic success of all students. (2.9)*

  • Contributes ideas and expertise to further the schools' mission and initiatives. (3.1)*

  • Dedicates time efficiently when needed for helping students and peers outside of class. (3.1)*

  • Seeks out and participates in regular opportunities to collaborate with and to learn from peers. (3.2)*

  • Welcomes constructive feedback while seeking ways to implement new practices, instructional techniques, and teacher knowledge. (3.3)*

  • Displays commitment to the education of all his/her students while attempting to remedy obstacles around student achievement. (3.4)*

  • Engages in all forms of parent outreach required by the school in order to promote student learning, participation and achievement. (3.5)*

  • Projects a genuine care and concern for all students.

  • Special Education teachers will comply with the following Article 7 provisions:

  • Provides direct services to the student according to their IEP, and or, serve as a consultant and resource person to all other personnel providing services to the student. "511 IAC 7-32-97 (1) (7)"

  • Participates in the case conference committee meeting and evaluations as the student's teacher to assist in developing measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives, to meet the student's needs. "511 IAC 7-32-97 (2) (9)"

  • Monitors and evaluates student outcomes, by regularly monitoring the implementation of the student's goals through progress reports given on the same schedule as the other students in the building; ensure the IEP is accessible to all people who are responsible for its implementation. "511 IAC 7-32-97 (3) (4) (5)"

  • Ensures any accommodations on statewide or district assessments are implemented according to the student's IEP, and ensure all supplementary aids and services, modifications, and additional supports are provided as stated in the IEP. "511 IAC 7-32-97 (5) (6) (8) (10)"

  • Maintains all district and state reports by following compliance timelines, and comply with all ACSC policies, guidelines, and procedures. "511 IAC 7-32-97"

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
