Job Summary

The DHH teacher provides specialized academic instruction for students, who have hearing loss and use American Sign Language to communicate. The DHH teacher will provide an educational program for individuals with exceptional needs who require intensive instruction and training in programs serving pupils in which disability is deafness or hearing impairment. These pupils exhibit hearing impairment that, even with correction, adversely affects educational performance.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid California Deaf and Hard of Hearing or Communication Handicapped Credential with an EL Authorization. • Fluent in American Sign Language. • Teaching experience or student teaching experience in a Total Communication setting. • Knowledge of current educational trends, core, and alternative core curriculum and strategies for implementation as related to programs for students with hearing loss using American Sign Language to communicate. • Knowledge of state content standards and mandated tests (i.e., SBAC, CAA, ELPAC). • Knowledge of the IEP process and SEIS.
