PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the supervision of Site Principals in conjunction with Education Services, the Academic Coach provides training and support to staff in the implementation of effective instructional practices. Performs essential duties according to District policies and procedures, state standards and programmatic requirements.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Site Principals in conjunction with Educational Services
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Curriculum
Utilize the courses of study adopted by the Salinas City Elementary School District Board of Education and State curriculum frameworks, and appropriate learning activities to teach the Common Core strategies and standards for students.
Diagnose student needs and develop lesson plans in collaboration with teachers
Instruction Management
Provide training and support for classroom teachers for effective program implementation in order to maximize student learning. This training and support may include, but is not limited to:
Analyzing student needs and providing strategies for differentiated instruction
Developing Common Core lessons and individual learning plans
Implementing the Common Core curriculum
Implementing effective classroom management in order to maximize student engagement
Facilitate peer observation and coaching to improve teacher effectiveness
Conduct demonstration lessons
Interpret and help teacher process student data
Co-facilitate and support PLC or grade level meetings
Participate in site and/or District data team meetings
Professional Activities and Growth
Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service activities provided by the District and other professional growth activities, keeping informed of best practices and trends
Participate in District committees as appropriate
Attend regular trainings and meetings as designated by Educational Services
Participate in faculty meetings and committees, as needed or assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid California teaching credential
Possess a valid California driver's license and insurable
EXPERIENCE:
At least five years of previous successful classroom teaching
Experience working effectively with students using differentiated instruction
Training in core curriculum
Previous experience providing instructional support and professional development for teachers
Demonstrate knowledge and experiences in research-based instructional practices
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Coaching teachers in developing models that support effective teaching strategies, with a focus on differentiation
Knowledge of Common Core Standards and Strategies
Curriculum, instruction, assessment, and RTI process
District policies and procedures that govern program and curriculum
Technology, computer software applications, and student information systems relative to instruction and administration
California Standards for the Teaching Profession
ABILITY TO:
Effectively plan for the differentiated needs of students
Establish and maintain cooperative and supportive relationships with students, school personnel, district personnel, parents, co-workers, and public
Analyze a variety of student data and provide meaningful interpretation for school staff
Conduct demonstration lessons and non-evaluative classroom observations, and provide support to teachers using
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action as they pertain to working with adults in the coaching process and professional development
Use technology and computer software applications as appropriate to the work environment
Use tact, patience and courtesy when dealing with people
Understand and be sensitive to those of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
Travel to sites throughout the Salinas City Elementary School District on a regular, on going basis
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, classroom technology (including computers)
Ability to see for purposes of reading printed materials;
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone;
Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person, on the telephone, and addressing groups;
Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach above head;
Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (classroom, office, district, from school or home site-to-site;
Physical strength sufficient to lift 25 pounds
Physical stamina sufficient to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time;
Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.
