For Position Information, Please Read Below:

FTE: Flexible FTE range of .2 to 1.0 for a total FTE of up to 1.2 FTE that can be shared in a co-teaching model of general education and special education teacher.

Ex: 1.0 general education teacher and .2 special education teacher, OR, 1.0 special education teacher, OR, .6 general education teacher and .6 special education teacher, OR, .8 general education teacher. We will consider all FTE situations either with one or two certificated staff members up to 1.2 FTE.

The goal of this flexible FTE model is to ensure that we find the very best staff fit for the varying student needs in this unique program. Additionally, this program will have paraeducator support in order to have a small team approach to meet the collective needs of this small group of students. All interested applicants are encouraged to apply, as we will work together within the parameters of the FTE allocation to meet the needs of interested staff, each student in the program and their family.

Program Overview:

Co-LAB-oration Academy is a new addition to the spectrum of options available at Commodore. Co-LAB is an innovative and student-centered Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) pilot program designed to cater to the diverse needs of up to 8 students. We emphasize project-based and expeditionary learning, support for neurodiverse students, and offer small group and community-based learning opportunities. Additionally, our program provides family support and special education resources, along with flexible, modified schedules to meet the unique needs of our students.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate teacher to join our Alternative Learning Experience program. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. They will be adept at designing and implementing project-based and expeditionary learning experiences, and committed to meeting the diverse needs of neurodiverse students. Additionally, this role includes serving as a teacher advisor who collaborates with students to create personalized learning plans with academic and personal goals, and modifies these plans as needed throughout the year. (Written Student Learning Plan- WSLP which can also support a current IEP if needed)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement innovative, student-centered curriculum and lesson plans that align with the principles of project-based and expeditionary learning.

  • Provide personalized support and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of neurodiverse students.

  • Facilitate small group and community-based learning sessions that promote collaboration and active engagement.

  • Serve as a teacher advisor, collaborating with students to create individualized learning plans with personal and academic goals, and adjust these plans as necessary throughout the year.

  • Work closely with families to provide support, resources, and regular communication about student progress and learning goals.

  • Collaborate with special education professionals to design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other support plans.

  • Utilize various assessment tools to monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting instruction as needed, supporting the whole child and learner.

  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate the unique needs of the program and its students in partnership with parents.

  • Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in developing and adapting learning experiences to engage students and support their individual needs.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in alternative education and neurodiversity support, UDL and PBL strategies.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student growth and learning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Valid teaching certification/license in the state of Washington.

  • Experience in alternative education settings, project-based learning, or expeditionary learning models.

  • Strong understanding of neurodiversity and experience working with neurodiverse students.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment.

  • Creativity in developing engaging and effective learning experiences.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Special education certification or endorsement.

  • Experience with family support services and resources.

  • Training in or experience with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
