Position Summary

KIPP Public Schools Northern California is looking for talented and committed coaches to play a key role in the development of instructional practice that results in strong student learning outcomes. The ideal candidate would be able to provide all coaching support required by a teacher induction program for up to 5 teachers at a time to earn their California Clear Credential with the 1 year Early Completion Option (ECO).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of effective K-12 teaching experience

  • Experience teaching or coaching teachers in historically underserved communities

  • Prior coaching experience (highly preferred)

Education/Credentials:

  • Active Clear California Teaching Credential in Special Education, English, Math, Science (Foundational, Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Social Science, Spanish, and/or Multiple Subjects

Knowledge/skills required:

  • Knowledge of California content standards and frameworks for the Participating Teacher's credential

  • In depth knowledge of the California Standards of the Teaching Profession (CSTPs)

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and collaborating

  • Ability, willingness, and flexibility to meet the teacher's needs for support

  • Believe all students can achieve at the highest academic levels

  • Skilled in building relationships with teachers and other stakeholders and communicating with various stakeholders

  • Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)

Coaching Responsibilities

As a coach, you will support teachers who are in a program to obtain a California Clear credential, fulfilling the state-required minimum of 35 hours of coaching support per participating teacher. Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing a sustained and thoughtful mentoring relationship with each participating teacher, characterized by openness, listening, sharing and reflection.

  • Meeting with teachers (virtual okay): 1 hour per week for induction, per teacher you are coaching.

  • Completing requisite training (training for coaches is dependent on the program of the participant).

  • Completing requisite observations required by the participant's credential program.

  • Submitting completed documentation (Meeting Log) at defined checkpoints.

  • Participating in all coach/mentor required induction meetings or workshops.

  • Maintaining records of meetings with teachers observing teachers once per quarter and facilitating observation feedback sessions.

  • Maintain confidentiality and a professional relationship with each participating teacher.

  • Model effective instructional skills and a commitment to ongoing professional growth.

  • Attend periodic meetings with the Associate Director of Credentialing to review teacher progress and plan support.

  • Proactively connect with the Associate Director of Credentialing and the credential program should an issue arise around supporting the participating teacher.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces and commute to different schools to deliver small group instruction. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs.

Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental: Office and/or classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Occasional classroom/school environment and travel.

Classification

Part-time, non-exempt position for up to 40 hours over the course of a school year (for each teacher coached); based on school calendar and time-off policy. This position is a hybrid role, as Coaches will need to conduct some in-person observations and meetings with the teacher(s) they are supporting, while also participating in some meetings virtually.

Compensation

We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The pay for this position is $2,500/year per induction teacher supervised (up to 5 teachers supervised at a time).
