Primary Purpose:

Under the supervision of the campus principal, Teachers In Residence support campuses by providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.The Teacher in Residence will assist in the areas of student learning, classroom management, and day to day school operations. Individuals are responsible for working collaboratively with the campus staff as an essential partner to promote student success and achievement.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned

  • Teacher candidate with a Bachelor's degree currently enrolled in an alternative certification program, actively pursuing a teaching certification in the related content area

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of pedagogical philosophies, principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of classroom behavioral management strategies and techniques.

  • Knowledge of web related technology and technology application platforms.

  • Ability to assist students with technology navigation and provide support for students is technology issues arise.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships students, online instructors, and school leadership.

  • Meet professional requirements of the school, district and state

Experience:

  • Verification of current enrollment in an accredited Alternative Certification Program (ACP)
  • 50% or more ACP modules completed (preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.

  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

  • Develop and maintain effective behavioral management and intervention techniques with individual and/or groups of students and provide assistance in meeting educations, occupational, and personal needs.

  • Communicate with parents regarding students' progress to keep them informed as needed.

  • Participate in PLC's, staff meetings, District-mandated trainings, and any other required trainings or events as assigned.

  • Build and facilitate a positive classroom culture that fosters a high sense of belonging in all students.

  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission and vision of the school district.

  • Work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other staff members to ensure success in meeting individual needs of students

  • Conference with parents, administrators, and teachers concerning school and student issues.

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

  • Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization:

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Communication:

  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

  • Consult with district and outside resources regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside; may work outside; possibility of working in environments conducive to gang exposure; regular exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours

Salary: Dependent upon ACP enrollment status
