Essential Functions and Objectives:

Plex Job Description

  • Provides instruction in a Pragmatic Language Affective Needs classroom, a center program designed to meet the needs of students with impacted dyssemic and/or pragmatic language and affective needs that significantly impact access to general education. Must have experience working with the structures needed for students with executive functioning disorders such as: Autism Spectrum Disorders and severe AD-HD, in addition to pragmatic language concerns. Strong emphasis on a highly structured classroom arrangement, individual and classroom behavior management systems, visual schedules, and social communication instruction.

Strong candidates will be skilled in leadership, management, faculty development, scholarship, and teaching. The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups. Duties/Responsibilities Leadership in Curriculum and Program Assessment * Assists in and oversees curriculum development and implementation that are aligned to School of Education mission, vision, and values. * Provides leadership in creating a culture of assessment of academic curriculum and programs for continuous improvement. * Working with data/assessment specialist, prepares required accreditation/program review reports to the university and outside agencies as necessary. * Provides leadership in assessment, including student learning outcomes, and program review of the department. * Provides leadership in accreditation requirements by supporting and maintaining department, school and/or university accreditation requirements. Management of Faculty * Provides recommendations to the Dean for hiring, retention, tenure, promotion, and post-tenure review; reassigned work; sabbatical leaves; and other leaves of absence. * Responds to student concerns and works with students, faculty, staff, and other University offices to resolve concerns, conflicts, and disputes. * Provides effective management and direction to part-time and full-time faculty, support staff, and student workers. * Assigns faculty teaching duties. * Promotes and supports faculty and staff performance. * Evaluates faculty performance. * Addresses issues regarding appropriate professional behavior among faculty as well as that between faculty and students. Required Qualifications 1.Terminal degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education or related discipline. 2.Must qualify for tenure in one of the programs in the department. 3.Minimum of three years of experience teaching in preschool through grade 12 educational settings. 4.Record of effective teaching, scholarship, and service in higher education 5.Experience effectively leading committees or other official initiatives in higher education. 6.Experience in consensus building of teams, conflict prevention, and conflict resolution. 7.An understanding of how to operationalize an organization's mission, vision, and values. 8.An understanding of effective tools and strategies for managing department and SOE initiatives that lead to on-time completion. Preferred Qualifications Meets the qualifications for Full Professor in one of the programs in the department. Experience with: * Evaluating faculty performance. * Mentoring faculty and/or young scholars. * Leading curriculum change. * Assessing programs for continuous improvement. * Utilizing assessment data for continuous improvement. * Managing budgets and other resources. * Communicating a clear vision and motivating others. * Developing and maintaining partnerships with entities across the University and with community organizations. * An understanding of the issues that affect college students and PK-12 students from a range of backgrounds, including students who are first generation, culturally/ethnically diverse, linguistically diverse, non-traditional, and LGBT. * An understanding of the issues that affect PK-12 teaching in an urban context.
