Position Description

2024 - 2025 SCHOOL YEAR

Third Grade Teacher

Location: Captain Strong Primary School

Reports To: Building Principal

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and implement a program of study to following state and district standards that meet the individual needs and abilities of the students by providing effective, differentiated instruction using research-based practices.

  • Implement instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for achieving stated objectives for instruction and student success, including use of technology.

  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum student outcomes.

  • Participate with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to meet the needs of students in (all curriculum areas).

  • Educate special needs students within the regular classroom environment in collaboration with other staff.

  • Create a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to learning for all students.

  • Participate with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior.

  • Participate in State, Federal and District testing requirements.

  • Provide positive supports and guidance to a diverse population.

  • Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment.

  • Assess students' academic learning and/or skills for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student' progress, expectations, goals, etc.

  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals.

  • Maintain accurate, complete, confidential and timely records as required by law, District Policy, and Administrative Regulations including attendance, IEP information, progress reports, cumulative records, and classroom inventory.

  • Confer with colleagues, administrators, students and/or parents when necessary.

  • Collaborate with school personnel and parents for the purpose of improving the quality of student performance, developing solutions and planning curriculum.

  • Become familiar with and uphold the enforcement of school rules, Administrative Regulations and Board Policy.

  • Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude when carrying out responsibilities as a faculty member.

  • Perform assigned out-of-classroom supervision and other duties.

  • Participate in staff meetings, planning events, and grade level/department/PLC/job-alike meetings.

  • Participate in total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for assignment with an Elementary Education endorsement preferred.

  • Working knowledge of WA State Essential Academic Learning Requirements and Grade Level Expectations.

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or higher learning.

  • Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for cost of background check.

  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be will to actively participate in a team environment

  • Must have regular, consistent attendance.

  • Must be willing to uphold District Policies and follow administrative procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum integration and a commitment to improve and refine instructional and management skills by participating in professional development.

  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to use a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, with an emphasis on reading, writing and mathematical skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology and an ability to incorporate into instructional programs.

  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, district and school goals.

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students and adults (staff and parents).

  • Demonstrated awareness, appreciation and respect of diversity among students and adults.

  • Sets appropriate expectations for individual students.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the designated grade level preferred.

  • Experience working with at-risk student population preferred.

  • Experience working with economically diverse or challenged populations preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team.

  • Character to act as a role model for students in fulfilling the requirements of RCW 28A.150.211 and RCW 28A.405.030.

Terms of Employment: continuing contract for the 2024-2025 school year with salary (Base, TRI, Class Funds, Start Up, PLD) and benefits provided as described in the benefit section below. Currently, salary is based on the 2023/2024 certificated salary schedule.

Benefits

Newly hired employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours in a school year (Sept 1 - Aug 31) will be eligible for SEBB benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and long term disability.

Retirement Benefit - Teachers Retirement System options Plan 2 or 3

Every employee under contract for a full year (180 days) will receive twelve (12) days annual sick leave. Sick leave shall be prorated based on the number of paid work days out of the 180 day school year.

Every employee under contract shall receive two (2) days of personal leave.

Parental and Bereavement Leave are also a benefit.
