Position Summary: Follows established Individual Educational Plans to improve socially significant behaviors under the supervision of the Teacher and Building Principal/Special Education Director.
Essential Job Functions Incorporates specific educational objectives into the context of on-going activities, as appropriate Facilitates opportunities for generalization and maintenance of skills Communicates with students' parents via communication log Maintains a student notebook in a neat and orderly manner Maintains student specific materials and reinforcers Schedules activities as directed Reviews progress on IEP goals Participates in writing students' progress reports Updates students' guidelines Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs. Presents subject matter to students, utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role playing.
Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts. May need assistance with toileting and lifting Student may have behavior issues, medical conditions, work completion, elopement risks, aggression, and need de-escalation. Reliable and consistent attendance Help facilitate communication and social emotional skills.
Responsible for safety of students Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Three (3) exceptions to this particular qualification:
Those hired before January 1, 1999 Those with certification as a TA in another state, Those with an associates degree or bachelors degree AND who have completed coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards. It is a district's decision whether coursework or other training is consistent with the teacher assistant program standards. Must meet one (1) of the following requirements after obtaining a certificate for a RIDE approved Teacher Assistant Program Successfully pass the ParaPro Assessment. OR Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education OR Obtain an associates or higher degree.
