District Instructional Coach

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The Instructional Coach is responsible for providing consultative and direct support to schools through school-based instructional leadership teams (ILTs) and school-based coaches (ie: Assistant Principal for Instruction, Instructional Facilitators, Multi-Classroom Leaders, school-based literacy coaches, etc.) to accelerate exemplary instructional practices for increased student learning and achievement. The primary duties of instructional coaches are to provide leadership to school-based instructional leadership teams to support improved teaching and learning, Curriculum and Assessment Development, Instructional coaching, and professional development.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Forms relationships with area teams and school-based instructional leadership teams (ILTs) and school-based coaches to create safe spaces for growth and reflection that ensure trust and garner confidentiality while supporting instructional leaders.

  • Facilitates respectful crucial conversations that foster growth

  • Holds self and others accountable to instructional standards and district and state policies, missions, and goals

  • Works with Area Superintendents, Directors of School Improvement, Instructional Services Directors, and Area Teams to support school improvement and align coaching support

  • Collaborates with school administrators and school-based instructional leadership teams (ILTs) regularly for reflection and planning regarding curriculum and instruction.

  • Creates a communication and collaboration cadence for Area Coaching Team to support school improvement, problem solve, identify specific instructional and content support needs, review data and provide constructive feedback, and celebrate successes.

  • Co-collaborates with area superintendents, Instructional Services directors, School Improvement Directors, and ILTs to prioritize school support needs

  • In consultation with ILTs and school-based leaders, creates a support schedule to maximize school support through direct and consultative support.

  • Co-plans Professional Learning Team (PLT) meetings with PLT leaders.

  • Collaboratively plans lessons and units with ILTs and facilitates sharing.

  • Conferences with individuals (instructional leadership team) regarding curriculum and instructional initiatives.

  • Participates in learning walks with district and school-based leadership to reflect on support and implementation

  • Consults with ILTs and school-based coaches for the purpose of analyzing, interpreting, and utilizing test data for curriculum planning and re-teaching.

  • Coaches teams through data analysis and problem-solving protocols.

  • Works collaboratively as a member of an area team to assess and respond to school needs.

  • Develops and recommends curriculum and instructional support resources.

  • Supports development of assessment items and provides professional developments to ILTs to use data to inform instruction through the creation of formative assessments.

  • Develop and maintain district-level curriculum supports (UPOs, Canvas Pages, etc…)

  • Shares exemplary practices; provides models and examples.

  • Models effective lesson planning, implementation, and reflective teaching for PLTs, ILTs, school-based coaches, in service of building the capacity of multi-teachers and school leaders.

  • Support schools with use of approved core instructional resources such as pacing guides, locally developed curriculum guides, manipulatives, etc.

  • Develops and provides on-going professional development for instructional staff to meet student learning objectives at both the school and district level.

  • Plans, facilitates, and monitors professional development activities (large and small groups) based on student outcome data.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for EC and General Education teacher assistants and school level coaches who support assistants

  • Supports participants in Transition 2 Teach cohorts with requirements for completing programs

  • Communicates with Instructional Assistants around opportunities within the

Teacher Pipeline

  • Provides Instructional Leadership Teams with best practices for utilizing Instructional Assistants

  • Acts as liaison between HR for licensure needs and job requirements

  • Collaborates with the Teacher Residency program leaders to support all areas of the program including but not limited to providing instruction, grading assignments, providing feedback, and coaching, providing feedback on applications, transcripts and canvas course development.

  • Stays abreast of current educational research and best practices to inform professional development offerings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Education or another related field

  • Minimum: Five years of successful teaching experience.

  • Desirable: Experience in exceptional children's education

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current North Carolina teaching license required.

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Desirable: Certified in Foundation of Math in order to facilitate FOM to classroom practice courses for the Teacher Residency Program and Teacher Assistants

  • Desirable: Certified in Reading Research to Classroom Practices in order to facilitate RR to classroom practice courses for the Teacher Residency Program and Teacher Assistants

  • Desirable: Hold a Master's Degree Willingness to get certified in these areas within the first year of hiring.
