Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
The Taxpayer Specialist position in the Communications and Business License Sections of the Revenue Division is a specialized position dealing with complex tax, licensing and fee transactions for the City of Kansas City, Missouri Finance Department.
Assists taxpayers and their representatives about City tax requirements.
Possesses in-depth knowledge and understanding of City tax ordinances, regulations and tax forms is necessary to perform the duties of this position.
Explains City's tax ordinances, regulations, policies and procedures to accountants, attorneys, business owners, payroll companies, tax preparers and the general public, including the researching of tax accounts and taxpayer obligations.
Accesses taxpayer records to process tax returns and payments and to update information on the taxpayers' accounts.
Work is governed by strict computer security and strict confidentiality requirements.
Works with independent judgment in accordance with City and departmental policies, procedures and regulations.
Work is evaluated through review of duties performed according to established performance standards and measures.
Completes account maintenance functions associated with the Division tax data base
Research and posts all payments and tax returns not processed by lockbox vendor.
Supports the divisional and departmental strategic work plans.
Signs and adheres to City/IRS confidentiality agreements.
Qualifications
REQUIRES an high school graduation and 3 years public or private sector experience in customer service work; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. May be required to be bonded.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
