Description

Advance your career at Liberty Mutual Insurance - A Fortune 100 Company!

Liberty Mutual Corporate Tax Department

Liberty’s highly integrated tax organization provides a collegial framework to achieve results. Typically, professionals contribute across all the key components of tax including planning & research, audits, compliance & financial reporting. Note: This is a hybrid opportunity with compensation dependent on candidate’s geographic location, overall experience, and skill level.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the federal tax team, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of tax compliance assignments, demonstrating a strong attention to detail.

  • Conduct thorough reviews of tax-related financial statement calculations, entries, and disclosures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting guidance.

  • Perform comprehensive research on tax technical and income tax accounting issues, providing well-documented conclusions in supporting memoranda for management.

  • Develop and implement effective tax planning strategies that add value and enhance the Company's global tax position in a cost-effective manner.

  • Efficiently handle IRS information requests, proactively identifying potential issues and assessing their impact on the Company's past, present, and future operations.

  • Exhibit proactive leadership and active participation in both Department and Company-wide initiatives.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and play a leading role in their successful implementation.

  • Stay up to date with current tax laws, regulations, and practices, promptly communicating any changes that may impact the business to management.

  • Act as a mentor to staff members, providing valuable training, coaching, and constructive feedback to support their professional growth.

  • Foster effective collaboration with other areas of Corporate Tax and Finance, showcasing leadership skills in cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, Business (or BS degree and equivalent tax or accounting experience).

  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in Federal Taxation (financial reporting, compliance, audit, planning) or equivalent, preferably with a major public accounting firm or large multi-national company.

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely to both tax and non-tax professionals.
