Tax Specialist

TAX SPECIALIST

Location: Richmond, VA

OVERVIEW:

Davenport is seeking a Tax Specialist to handle various tax-related functions for Davenport, including:

• Accounting and tax preparation for hedge funds managed by Davenport

• Preparation of Company multi-state corporate tax returns and K-1s, including tax provision

• Preparation of annual information returns (Forms 1099)

• Administration and communication with employees for Company retirement plans

• Miscellaneous assistance to investment executives related to client and internal tax issues

• Various other related projects, including sales tax, fixed asset accounting, registered agent, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Create accounting records, including partner allocations, for three Davenport-managed hedge funds

• Prepare monthly performance communications to hedge fund partners

• Coordinate annual hedge fund audits and financial statement preparation

• Prepare tax returns and K-1s for hedge funds

• File periodic regulatory reports for hedge funds

• Maintain Company interim book-to-tax reconciliations

• Review and supervise book and tax fixed asset records

• Prepare multi-state partnership and pass-through corporate tax returns, including K-1s

• Respond to tax notices and communications

• Assist in Company profit-sharing plan/401K administration and employee communication

• Supervise annual information return preparation (Forms 1099)

• Review sales tax filings

• Serve as a resource for various tax-related questions from investment executives

• Participate in special projects as needed (examples: employee stock ownership, broker client transfers, audit assistance, compensation administration)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required

• CPA certificate required

• 5+ years of tax experience

• Experience in multi-state corporate and partnership tax preparation, including PTE tax

• Working knowledge of tax software

• Hedge fund tax knowledge and experience is a plus

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Good time management skills, organization, and attention to detail

• Experience in financial services is a plus

• Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics, our accounting information system, and Ultratax, our tax software, is a plus
