Job Summary

The goal of the Tax Onboarding Analyst is to ensure successful and timely onboarding/go-live for all Communications returns clients. The Tax Onboarding Analyst must exceed clients' expectations by effectively planning, organizing and communicating all onboarding activities/requirements and providing exceptional customer support every step of the way. This position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where attention to detail, analytical skills and strong communication skills are essential.

Job Duties

  • Partner with Sales Team regarding all new clients and planned onboarding work. Hold weekly meetings to discuss all new client activity and timelines.

  • Work closely with Sales Team to schedule initial client Welcome Call and lead and coordinate all additional client onboarding planning calls.

  • Develop and maintain detailed onboarding dashboard to track all client onboarding activity for all new Communications Returns clients.

  • Develop and implement all client onboarding documentation, processes and deliverables.

  • Plan, organize and lead all client onboarding efforts to ensure an accurate, complete and efficient onboarding/go-live is achieved.

  • Review, analyze and confirm all client data to ensure that data is provide in an acceptable and usable format.

  • Gather and review all required client input documents, information prior to go-live date.

  • Partner with Returns and Treasury Team to ensure that all client set-up activities are complete, including client set up, filing calendar/returns list, funding PoAs, and etc.

  • Assist in 1st month returns filing at month of go-live and work closely with assigned Tax Compliance to ensure complete and accurate hand off/transition from onboarding/go-live team to Analyst team.

  • Doing whatever it takes to get the job done and ensure successful new client onboarding/go-live.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other four year degree with equivalent accounting experience

  • Proven computer technical skills MS Excel

  • Exceptional organizational skills & attention to detail

  • Strong communication skills both oral and written

  • Team-player, customer-centric attitude

  • Deadline driven

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior sales tax filing experience.

  • Demonstrates ability to be successful while overcoming obstacles, driven problem solver

  • Enjoys details, working with data and performing analysis

Job Duties * Research tax law, reporting, and remittance requirements to keep our tax products in compliance with state, county, and local jurisdiction tax laws * Monitor legislation and judicial decisions for changes in transaction taxes in assigned jurisdictional or topical areas * Apply taxability, exemption and tax holiday rule changes into our software while providing concise documentation of the changes * Identify and apply exemption certificate changes * Based upon tax research, validate results of test transactions pre-production * Build productive working relationships with state, county, and city authorities to maximize the quality of our product * When opportunities to further automate and streamline processes exist, raise them to Manager and/or Sr Designer to enable prioritization and ticket creation for Content Engineering Qualifications (absolute must haves walking in the door) * A natural curiosity about technology and an interest in innovation and learning about new areas of transaction taxes * Relevant advanced degree or certification (i.e. Accounting, Finance, Law, Economics, Geography, Data Science) or 1-3 years equivalent experience researching tax law * Excellent research skills, including a logical and creative approach to drilling down to specific data to surface information that is vital to the accuracy of published content * Effective communication skills (verbal and written) * Ability to work in and support a team environment through collective team topics, load balancing, and sharing/receiving constructive feedback * Ability to multi task, troubleshoot, and problem solve in a calm, analytical and methodical manner that also demonstrates a sense of urgency * Proactively participate in a dynamic and innovative tax environment by maintaining a high level of energy while being consistently dependable, efficient, and accurate * Demonstrated ability to manage time to achieve priority results * Ability to maintain organization and attention to detail * Analytic ability at a level sufficient to understand and resolve client requests and tax concerns * Ability to apply basic math, percentages and general accounting rules * Ability to use a laptop and various software, including MS Office, browsers, subscription research services and Avalara products * Demonstrated high standards of excellence in work product and professionalism Preferred Qualifications (great to have but not absolutely necessary) * BA, JD/LLM, and/or CPA/Chartered Accountant in that order of preference * Familiarity with tax returns and/or government compliance * Familiarity with Atlassian Confluence and / or JIRA About Avalara Avalara helps businesses of all sizes achieve compliance with transaction taxes, including sales and use, VAT, excise, communications, and other tax types.
