This position is responsible for all aspects of tax compliance (for profit and not for profit), planning, audits, controls and accounting compliance for Rush System for Health (RSH) and its affiliates. The manager will work with operations, legal, finance, taxing authorities, and others to identify issues, implement strategies, and ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance for the system. The manager will oversee and manage all tax reporting, tax accounting reporting, financial tax staff and outside tax audits while limiting risk to RSH. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Oversees, the preparation of all federal, state, and local tax returns by third party tax service providers.
Manages the relationship with key tax services vendor and their performance.
Responsible for monitoring accurate federal, state, and local income tax activity within the general ledger and preparation of tax account reconciliations.
Provides timely response and resolutions to income tax inquiries, notices, and issues originating from but not limited to: third party tax service, internal departments, customers, and taxing authorities.
Prepares tax information for auditors, consultants, and other parties as needed in the event of audit or inquiries.
Performs sales & use tax and property tax compliance and audits.
Monitors other tax-related filings which include but are not limited to: business licenses, annual reports, and business registrations.
Payroll withholding and reporting.
Understanding of student and nonresident alien tax requirements.
Researches and advises on new or changing tax regulation that may impact the business and other internal activities.
Recognizes complex technical issues, researches appropriate conclusions, and applies authority to support conclusions.
Develops and implements policies and controls.
Develop tax department including hiring junior personnel.
Continues to develop industry expertise and stays abreast of industry news; contributes to staff developmental by sharing industry knowledge.
Provides guidance to operating units in reviewing activity that may be subject to tax.
Analyzes tax implications of potential business decisions.
Development and implementation of tax planning strategies with management and executive leadership.
Evaluates and implements strategy with acquisitions and mergers involving partnerships and potential targets, including legal entity formation and tax due diligence.
Position Qualifications Include:
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
7-10 years of U.S. tax experience or Hospital or healthcare tax experience.
Highly skilled in use of Excel spreadsheets and other accounting software.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, customer service and organizational skills.
Excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to complete a task or project, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
Strong tax provision skills, including current tax reporting rules and US GAAP.
Deep understanding of federal, state, and local tax issues
Experience with internal control procedures in compliance.
Ability to dig in, manage projects, and establish processes.

Strong analytical, problem-solving and research skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to supervise and train staff.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
7-10 years of U.S Big 4 tax experience.
