Essential Functions and Primary Duties:

  • Planning and managing multiple client engagement and simultaneously

  • Reviewing complex tax returns including federal and multi-state returns for C Corporations, S Corporations, partnerships, high net worth individuals, trusts & estates, and foundations

  • Understanding your client goals and needs and servicing clients directly

  • Owning client relationships and work

  • Strategizing with Managing Directors regarding tax planning

  • Giving clients recommendations and guidance on how to achieve their goals

  • Assist in identifying opportunities for growth with clients

  • Researching tax issues and providing guidance to clients

  • Working closely with staff, and assisting senior management in mentoring, coaching, training, supervising, and evaluating staff

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Accounting, Taxation or related field

  • 6 years of experience in public accounting or related field

  • 3 years supervisory experience

  • Must have active CPA or equivalent certification

  • Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally

  • Must be able to travel based on client and business needs

  • Proficient use of applicable technology

VIEW JOBS 11/9/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-07T00:00 ROLE SUMMARY This position is responsible for activities associated with the non-compliance aspects of US State Income and Franchise Tax projects including technical research, audits, protests, ASC 740 accounting, and analyzing and modeling the impact of legislative and operational changes (85%). This position is also responsible for various aspects of reporting / compliance and U.S. Income Tax Accounting (15%). The position will provide state tax guidance and leadership on a wide range of tax issues and participate in significant projects to ensure the state tax implications are identified and considered. This position is responsible for supporting and advancing the Global Tax Department's objectives of developing and maintaining a high performance environment which maximizes personal development and growth of colleagues, promotes inclusiveness, trust and teamwork and aligns with Pfizer's "OWNIT!" culture. The candidate should have recent corporate state income and franchise tax experience with proven research skills. Candidate should also have strong partnering and communication skills, strong state tax technical skills and be a champion of process and technology improvements. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Primary Responsibilities (85%) State Tax Research * Research state income and franchise tax technical matters and apply the research to company facts * Provide support to other tax colleagues on research matters State Tax Legislation * Liaise with the Corporate Affairs' colleagues to analyze and model tax impact of new or proposed state tax legislation * Proactively identify state legislative changes favorable to Pfizer and coordinate with Corporate Affairs' colleagues to pursue opportunities Support Various Transactions (Acquisitions, Divestures, etc.) * Actively participate in planning meetings regarding potential transactions with a focus on identifying state exposure and/or opportunities. State Tax Controversy (Audit/Notices) * Provide support in the resolution of notices and in the completion of Audit IDRs * Ensure agreed upon state audit adjustments are carried forward into current returns State Tax Modeling * Model impact of operational changes to identify potential impact on company; recommend changes or alternatives to minimize state impact. Secondary Responsibilities (15%) State Income Tax Reporting/Compliance and Accounting * Assist in the review of state tax returns and ensure return workpapers are audit ready * Provide guidance as needed to tax colleagues in compliance process * Assist in review of state accounting implications of acquisitions, divestitures, legal entity restructurings and new legislation * As needed, assist in review of US income tax accounting including state tax deferred tax assets, state valuation allowances, state current/deferred tax provisions, state rate calculation and state payable rollforward Americas Tax Center (ATC) Environment * Promote and support an environment that focuses on inclusiveness where individuals' ideas are respected, valued and teamwork is promoted * Continue to develop a culture of One Tax – One Team focusing on recognition & collegiality * Foster open dialogue and facilitate "straight talk; identify and remove barriers that hinder trust and collegiality REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor degree in Accounting or related discipline * 5+ years recent tax experience in large corporations or Big 4 accounting firms * Proven tax research and writing skills including ability to interpret statutes, regulations and case law and apply them to company facts (a technical writing sample may be required) * Ability to model state tax impact of proposed legislation and provide clear guidance to corporate affairs colleagues * Ability to model state tax impact of proposed operational changes including changes to distribution * Ability to analyze P&L and cash impact of proposed state income and franchise audit changes on both audit years and in post-audit years, including impact on state deferred tax assets * Change agile and able to manage multiple projects * Strong excel skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Graduate degree in Accounting, Tax or related discipline (considered equivalent of 1-year experience) * CPA * Experience with mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures EEO & Employment Eligibility Pfizer is committed to equal opportunity in the terms and conditions of employment for all employees and job applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity or gender expression, national origin, disability or veteran status.
