The Tax Manager will handle a variety of income tax matters including: federal corporate income tax provision, compliance and audit; state corporate income tax compliance; and tax compliance for publicly traded limited partnership.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
Ensures accurate preparation and reporting of corporate income tax provision and FAS 109 matters on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
Manages timely and accurate preparation and filing of federal and state corporate and partnership income tax returns.
Conducts tax research, compliance and financial tax reporting activities.
Reviews tax records and filings to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local tax laws and regulations.
Negotiates ongoing tax audit issues with federal and state tax authorities, and, when necessary, with appellate conferences and tax inspectors.
Maintains knowledge of changing regulations, identifies areas requiring change and modification.
Develops and supervises a tax preparation team capable of carrying out necessary tax functions and initiatives.
Determines work procedures, sets priorities, prepares work schedules and expedites income tax workflow.
Interprets and analyzes federal, and state legislative tax law changes.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
A minimum of six years of income tax experience, a significant amount of experience in tax accounting and tax planning, is required.
Two to four years of energy industry experience is preferred.
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related field, and CPA or LLM designation is required.
PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:
A Masters of Taxation is preferred.
Expert in financial income tax accounting procedures and tax provision coordination including corporate consolidation and related field of state income tax; proficient with spreadsheet, database and word processing applications; good interpersonal, ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, and decision making skills; ability to plan, organize and direct complex tax programs, to set up accounting systems, to interpret laws and regulations and apply advanced accounting theory; ability to supervise and direct the work of other professional associates. Advanced reading and writing skills with the ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.
Responsible for the direct supervision of approximately two to four professional employees.
Office based with up to 25% travel by land and air required. Driver based environment. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.
Job conditions require sitting, twisting stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver's license and proof of insurance required, perceiving color differences. Job conditions may require standing, walking, lifting and/or carrying up to 10lbs, and pushing and/or pulling up to 10lbs.
