Responsibilities

Tax Manager Healthcare & NFP

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with 5 to 7 years of public accounting experience to contribute to the growth of our Houston tax practice while developing deep technical expertise providing compliance and consulting services to taxable healthcare groups and a variety of exempt organizations.

  • Proactively manage tax compliance and consulting engagements for clients in the healthcare and not-for-profit industries

  • Effectively research complex tax issues while providing conclusions and recommended next steps to leadership

  • Assist in developing and coaching professional staff

  • Actively participate in practice and team development through external marketing and recruiting activities

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years related experience in public accounting

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in accounting, finance or related field

  • CPA certification is required

  • In-depth experience managing the preparation of Form 1120, Form 1065, Form 990 and Form 990-T

  • Dedication to client service

  • Excellent supervisory and time management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The successful Manager will: * Possess experience and knowledge regarding excise tax; key areas of focus for our practice include motor fuel, air transportation, manufacturers and retail excise taxes such as alcohol and tobacco excise taxes * Actively engage in required consultations * Focus on people/talent development by counselling, coaching and impacting others through identification of stretch and challenging goals * Identify and implement operational efficiencies * Challenge the effectiveness of the tax strategy and approach for all engagements * Develop strong relationships across a network of existing and future clients and key stakeholders * Team effectively * Provide insight, connectedness and responsiveness to all clients while demonstrating a good understanding of their business Key Responsibilities: * Demonstrate an understanding of complex tax concepts and effectively apply tax knowledge to client situations * Develop and deliver quality tax planning approaches with timely and responsive services and work products that meet and/or exceed client expectations * Identify and engage clients in opportunities for excise tax compliance, planning, and other special services * Manage the work of client service team members while participating in and contributing to the attainment of team goals * Thoroughly and accurately analyze information * Prepare quality, practical approaches to the client's tax situation and arrive at appropriate conclusions * Lead in developing recommendations and implementation plans and make informed decisions in complex and judgmental areas To qualify, candidates must have: * Minimum of 5 years of excise tax experience * A bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field * Must have a US CPA, an IRS Enrolled Agent, or be a member of US State bar (or eligible to obtain within the first year) * Excellent verbal/written communications skills * Effective time management skills * Ability to work in fast paced professional services environment * Experience with excise tax compliance and determination What we look for We're interested in people with initiative who are not afraid to speak up, with a genuine desire to make things better across the business.
