This position offers a unique opportunity for a qualified candidate to broaden and enhance their experience and knowledge across the US federal tax function and offers strong succession potential. The Federal Tax Manager will work closely with the Senior Federal Tax Manager as well as Senior Tax Analysts and operating company tax teams to manage compliance processes and to support strategic tax planning initiatives. Our US tax compliance team drives results through identifying opportunities and executing plans in both the income tax and indirect tax areas. We are involved in the integration of acquisitions and building standard work around that process. We drive continuous improvement through large-scale automation projects to improve our data collection processes. We also collaborate closely with the Tax Accounting team, providing inputs for ASC740 and FIN48 reporting requirements and alignment between our functions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the accurate and timely filing of the consolidated federal income tax returns, including extensions and estimated tax payments (e.g. Forms 1120, and 1065)

  • Research and document relevant tax laws in support of tax return positions and tax planning

  • Identify risks, obstacles and issues; recommend solutions and work with management to resolve escalated issues and assist with development of audit preparedness and risk management

  • Support federal income tax audits, assessments and appeals

  • Lead special projects related to domestic income tax issues

  • Integrate acquisitions into federal compliance processes

  • Partner with the tax accounting team to meet ASC 740 and FIN48 reporting requirements

  • Actively participate in planning and implementation of centralized tax data warehouse and tax compliance process automation projects

  • Analyze and incorporate tax law changes into tax systems

  • Implementation of continuous improvement of tax processes under Fortive Business Systems (FBS)

  • Support internal teams by providing subject matter expertise and informal training

  • Proactively pursue professional development activities (attending training, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, etc.)

  • 5 years of corporate or public accounting experience in federal income tax

  • Experience in US international tax, purchase accounting, and state income tax a strong plus

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Accounting; Master's Degree or CPA preferred

  • CorpTax software and e-filing experience preferred, tax automation experience a strong plus

  • Strong communication skills and a high sense of ownership

  • Successful working independently and as a member of a team
