Tax:

TheTax Division is responsible for fostering voluntary compliance and narrowingthe tax gap by identifying, educating, and auditing noncompliant taxpayers. TheTax Division audits the tax returns of businesses and individuals filed,including sales/use, meals, room's occupancy and special fuels are subject toexamination by the Tax Division staff.

Duty Statement:

A Tax Examiner II in the Voluntary Disclosure Unit of the Business Income Tax Bureau is requiredto perform all or some of the following duties and responsibilities. Providethe highest level of professional service; represent DOR in direct public dealings;answer telephone inquiries; resolve written inquiries; make accounttransactions; review and adjust tax returns; provide technical assistance byinterpreting and explaining state tax laws, rules, regulations, guidelines,policies and procedures; responsible for being proficient in use of GeniSys,MassTaxConnect and other systems; perform related tasks as requested.

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting, auditing or tax examining work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

The Tax Administration Division audits the tax returns of businesses and individuals filed, including sales/use, meals, rooms occupancy and special fuels, are subject to examination by the Tax Administration Division staff. Job Description: TaxExaminer IV's in the Trustee Tax Contact Center are required to perform all orsome of the following duties and responsibilities based on job assignment.Provides the highest level of professional service; represents DOR indirect public dealings; answers telephone inquiries; resolves writteninquiries; affects account transactions; provides technical assistance byinterpreting and explaining state tax laws, rules, regulations, guidelines,policies and procedures; Audits MA trustee tax returns; researches taxpayerinformation in connection with audit activities; prepares audit reports whencases are closed; explains tax issues and findings to taxpayers, supervisorsand co-workers; provides technical assistance to co-workers; reviews caseworkfor accuracy; responsible for being proficient in use of GeniSys,MassTaxConnect and other systems; handles special assignments includingintegrated audits; participates in special projects and work groups asrequested; performs related tasks as requested; performs on-the-job training toemployees; Provides direct supervision of the Bureau's seasonal tax examinersor processing staff, if necessary; Develops and provides training programs tostaff. Contact Center employees have limited flextime and predominantlyprovide phone support to the taxpayers of the Commonwealth.
